ImplyingImplications, to canadapolitics in A Canadian Lesson in How Not to Politick in a Right-Wing Stronghold | Jacobin.com

The NDP’s intense focus on winning over conservative voters in the suburbs of Edmonton and Calgary aimed to attract individuals who may not have supported some of Smith’s more extreme views. However, these voters were more than willing to overlook those positions in favor of tax cuts.

I'm not sure when left wing politicians will learn they can't win over conservative voters by pointing out conservative leaders are assholes. They know. Everyone knows.

Conservative voters want to know how they, as individuals, will directly benefit from their vote. They don't want the world, in general, to be better. They want an immediate and direct benefit to themselves. They're going to vote for the tax cut every time and ignore literally everything else.

ImplyingImplications, to jerboa in Bug: Jerboa is mostly ignoring language

Why is it necessary at all?

I feel like they planned for it to be a bigger feature and then put it on hold for more pressing stuff. The idea that I can only pick 1 language to see posts in is ridiculous.

Canada just hit 40 million people!

ImplyingImplications, to worldnews in Counter-revolution in the 21st century: How elites are crushing dissent

Interesting article, but it doesn't mention modern day propaganda and misinformation being disseminated on mainstream and social media. Status quo elites are doing more than just backing Donald Trump and Boris Johnson.

ImplyingImplications, to canada in 'Bigger issue than doping': Canada flirting with disaster amid growth of legalized sports gambling | CBC News

If we've banned advertising for drugs and alcohol I don't see why we won't ban gambling ads. Most I've seen use a "First time is free" marketing strategy. They must have stolen that from drug pushers.

This. Lemmy.ca also had questions which were clearly just a check that you were a human

ImplyingImplications, to news in A San Francisco library is turning off Wi-Fi at night to keep people without housing from using it

I can't go and take out a book at 1am

I can. My library has online services like ebook rentals that can be accessed 24/7.
