Tesla blamed drivers for failures of parts it long knew were defective (www.reuters.com)

Wheels falling off cars at speed. Suspensions collapsing on brand-new vehicles. Axles breaking under acceleration. Tens of thousands of customers told Tesla about a host of part failures on low-mileage cars. The automaker sought to blame drivers for vehicle ‘abuse,’ but Tesla documents show it had tracked the chronic...

There are electric cars that aren’t made by grifters and that don’t lose their wheels though.
Like none of these failures are inherent to electric cars, just to cheaply made cars with no quality control.

Ok sure, I don’t even disagree, but this has little to do with the post?

There’s even a few users from June 5th.

If I’m honest? probably nowhere near enough.

The 46 hours is assuming it moves at 300mm/s on that axis for 46 hours, which just isn’t the case.
I say this, but as a ballpark figure this is still useful. Even if typical prints probably take longer than that to reach 50km on an axis, that still tells me I certainly don’t lubricate them as often as I should.

Maybe that’s something printer firmwares could one day be modified to calculate and warn the user about.

Having learned English in my teens, I found that native speakers would make errors about things that sound the same (their/there, would of/have, should of, etc). Probably they learned to speak it before writing it, which is the other way around for me (and maybe other ESL speakers, IDK).
That’s not to say I or other ESL people don’t make errors, we just statistically make different ones.

IMHO, some of their communities are sketchy, but as long as it’s contained in their communities, that’s easily manageable with just the user-level instance block feature.

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

This is just the community in which we have discussions and votes about how to manage this instance.

Right, while it technically has a user-level solution, you’re right that a brand new user would simply not know about any of this.
I stumble upon a few now and then when they try and report stuff from there.
So… something like autoblocking the instance on user creation… which might make more sense than outright defederation. A bot could probably be made to do that and send them a DM with instructions on how to change it off they so wish.

The scam is you give them 450 bucks and they never call you back.
The probation and other bs is just plausible deniability.
You can be sure none of the radios they ever get back are in good enough condition too.

Sewer smell in bathroom only when temperature outside below freezing

I’ve been noticing an occasional sewer smell in my bathroom, and finally realized it’s only present when it’s below freezing outside. As soon as the weather warms up, the smell goes away. For reference, my house was built in '55 and the toilet is plumbed into the original steel sewer line. There are no leaks (everything...

Air always needs to get in for water to go out.
(Kinda like holding your finger at the end of a straw in a bowl of water doesn’t allow water in or out of the straw)
If the top right vent (roof or wherever) is plugged by snow or ice and you drain somewhere else, it’s likely the basin trap will get siphoned to allow air in the way.
It then doesn’t block sewer gasses from getting back in that way.

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

It might also be a problem with your plumbing vents.
Once in a blue moon, the vent on my roof gets buried in snow.
It usually thaws quick enough because there’s a bit of warm inside air leaking up, but if we get lots of snow at once, sometimes it happens.

If the vent is plugged and air can’t get in from the vent to allow water out l, it will either start to go uhhh… glug-glug, or sometimes that just siphons one of the other traps to allow air in that way, which then also allows smelly air through there.
You’re likely to not notice the gluglug or the siphoning of another trap happening elsewhere when you flush the toilet.
I’m not a plumber, but that’d be my guess.

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

If a vent is lacking the are air admittance valves (AAV).
They’re basically a one way vent for air that allows inside air to be used for venting the pipes but doesn’t allow sewer gasses back up.
It wouldn’t be my first choice as they eventually wear out, but certainly much cheaper than rippong stuff out of the walls.

Jim Henson (and everything he created) are VASTLY AND ANNOYINGLY OVERRATED

The fucking Muppets aren’t entertaining. At all. Not even a tiny little bit. First of all, who is their intended audience, even? Not kids, really, because they contain a bunch of references to stuff that kids really won’t get. Kids don’t really know how a rock drummer is supposed to behave. They won’t find Kermit and...

EDIT: hmmmmmm, it seems as if my UNPOPULAR OPINION, which I posted in the place for UNPOPULAR OPINIONS is immediately proving to be pretty UNPOPULAR. Please keep this in mind, when you’re getting ready to type your personal attacks.

I’m not of a fan of the Muppets, that’s not even an unpopular opinion.
I’m certainly not a fan of the amount of energy with which you hate the Muppets, which, also is probably not an unpopular opinion.
I’m not attacking you, just saying the vibe of this thread reflects the vibe of your post…
Don’t be too surprised that people scream back at you when you scream at them.
Shrug.
