I don’t like it because its not actually FOSS. It includes closed source software (Sandboxed Gservices, Android Auto, etc.) which completely defeats my main goal of wanting to take power away from big corpos. I dont want that to even be an option in an OS I’d recommend because if the easy way is there lazy people who dont care about their privacy will use it. Ive actually installed a few custom Roms for friends and their phones always end up with Insta/Snap/Discord installed and it just defeats the whole purpose…

Its directly bridged into Matrix and I dont actually have to interact with the enshitified platform unless I need to join a new Server (so not very often). Try emailing manufacturers and asking if they already have support, if they dont request that they start or you won’t consider their parts for your next build. Your wallet is a powerful tool that can cause companies to bend to your will if you know how to use it.

This is a common misconception. You didn’t come out of the womb knowing how to use Android, iOS or Windows. To that same capacity you didn’t come out knowing how to use Linux either. It has the same learning curve any other OS would. It’s a sunk cost fallacy.

Carrion from Divest does pretty Alright spam call blocking and the default LineageOS & CalyxOS Dialers have visual voicemail built in. Also saw in another comment thread you want your banking apps and thats why you don’t use gOS or cOS. Have you tried seeing if their web app (website) is any good? Mine recently restructured theirs from an early 2000s design to a native webapp that can be installed from Mull/Chromite. Might be worth checking into

The Cinny client for Matrix is pretty good if you want to replace discord 1:1. There will be differences though but it should make the transition easier.

Are there any functioning android app alternatives to Barinsta/Instagrabber/for Instagram?

I’ve looked through most posts here and on reddit and it seems pretty bleak, but maybe someone here knows an app that’s somehow miraculously unaffected by the rate limiting? I know I could just not use instagram at all, but I mostly use it to keep up with local and international activism and most of these organizations...

Instander is a closed source mod of the official APK, and it blocks ads and allows Image downloads. I used to use it bit Ive deleted my instagram a long time ago

I honestly haven’t had much of an issue. I only send emails to things like medical providers, and I use an SMTP forwarding service to prevent those emails getting bounced back.
