Woke up to good news: there was no far right gain in Sverige’s EU representation!
With 94% counted, the right parties will have lost support since the last EU election.
I am disappointed 2 anti-immigration, anti-EU left/ish parties in Sverige gained support, but at least the only one gaining a seat (V) opposes chat control. I’m happy about Sverige’s Green (Mp) seat gain, as my third most aligned EU party.
Very important for Swedes to vote in the EU Election. Privacy is a fundamental human right, even when there are bad people doing bad things. Mass surveillance by the government does more harm than good.
TIL I cannot donate ebooks to a library because ebooks are governed by contract instead of copyright law.
A queer kid in the Bible Belt of the US could check out an ebook on queerness much more safely. Public libraries want to increase ebook access, but they often cost more than paper books.
@internetarchive is fighting good fights on this front. So donating more today to it, in addition to buying a few more queer paper books for my childhood library.
While fictional, the Law of Jante’s disapproval towards individualism and personal success are very real parts of Scandinavian culture. What would a therapist say?
Yikes. A few boosts took down my WordPress site for a few minutes. I guess the WP Super Cache plugin doesn't help much when using the ActivityPub plugin?
Google continues to use its Chrome dominance to make the Web less private by limiting the capabilities and update speed of ad and tracker blocking extensions.
> Google, which makes about 77% of its revenue from advertising, has not published a serious explanation as to why Manifest V3 limits content filtering, and it's not clear how that aligns with the goals of “improving the security, privacy, performance and trustworthiness.”
I still think the swipe down from the right third to get to control center and swipe down from the remaining ⅔ to get to notifications is a terrible UX on iOS. There is no/little affordance to their behavior.
Similarly, I cannot tell you what tapping the digital crown, side button, and swiping up and down does on the Apple Watch Ultra. I just cycle thru all of them until I get the screen I’m looking for.
@jhogervorst I agree the control icons are a minimal affordance on iOS. Unlike WatchOS, I remember which place to swipe, but I often unintentionally swipe too far left when I want the control center. Big hand problems, I guess, but I think there should only be one swipe-from-edge gesture for any particular edge.
I can’t remember ever leaving a meetup early unplanned, but I did tonight. What was supposed to be a presentation on EU startup competitiveness turned out to be an ignorant and pessimistic rant from a VC about EU regulation.
DSA and DMA are startup-friendly regulations that inhibit anticompetitive practices by incumbents. GDPR and AI Act are pragmatic guidelines for ensuring human rights are not harmed by innovation. They’re accessibly written. They’re not perfect, but they are reasonable.
Lemon Squeezy, a popular "merchant of record" payments provider built on Stripe, took over a month to refund a purchase I made.
I wanted the purchase, but the payment confirmation got lost in their system. I was charged, but their system couldn't find it. The seller couldn't do anything. Lemon Squeezy's support took so long to respond that I missed the live event.
I would not recommend using Lemon Squeezy for payments.
