Men with 'toxic masculinity' are more likely to make sexual advances without consent, study finds (phys.org)

A team of researchers, including Binghamton psychology professor Richard Mattson and graduate student Michael Shaw asked men between the ages of 18–25 to respond to hypothetical sexual hookup situations in which a woman responds passively to a sexual advance, meaning the woman does not express any overt verbal or behavioral...

Kachilde,

How do you have Toxic Masculinity? That’s not how the concept works…

Kachilde,

I honestly did not peg the reveal on this one, only because it felt too obvious at the top of the episode, and made less sense as the story went on. Why was the old woman causing people to abandon Ruby? There was no hint I could figure as to why that might be happening. The ending felt almost like an “it was all a dream” twist, and didn’t feel satisfying.

I will think about this episode a lot, it had a lot of interesting ideas, and I always love a doctor-lite episode, but it did not stick the landing.

Kachilde,

But by the conclusion we know who the woman is. We never learnt anything that she might know that would make people hate Ruby.

The more I think about it, the more annoyed I am. The very specific 73 yards. The ability to teleport. The repeated gestures. The inability to see her face. Her power of suggestion. Even the clothes she was wearing. It was all set up to create a creepy and mysterious stalker. But in the end none of it was paid off.

Kachilde,

We only suffer from a similar issue because people’s education on voting comes from American media.

The system we have allows for much more nuance than the US, but we are told by tv that a vote for anyone but the big two, even for the greens, is “throwing away your vote”. But as this handy comic explains, that’s not true. www.chickennation.com/voting/

Kachilde,

Find better hobbies. Consume information, and then use that information to create. There are so many free resources if you are willing to look. Find friends who make those drab moments fly by. Talk to a professional if you legitimately cannot find the joy in anything. If you see parts of your world that could be changed for the better, then be a part of that change. Who cares if you’re just one person? What were you going to do with your time instead? Jerk off and shitpost?

No one is the secret heir to a magical legacy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the parts of the world we inhabit as beautiful as possible in the time we have.

Kachilde,

No silly, we don’t excuse genocide. We just proudly proclaim that there is no genocide in an attempt to hold onto the fundamentalist Christian voters that we don’t realise were never going to vote for us anyway.

Kachilde,

“Financially incentivised”? As in, the people who make a living creating original art? The people whose work is being taken without compensation and fed into a mindless program to plagiarise their work? Those bastards?

Artists aren’t some rich elite that you are winning one over on here. They are individuals who have been told for years that ‘exposure’ is the best payment. They are people, not companies. They have worked hard to develop their skills.

Their ‘financial incentive’ is wanting to be paid for their hard work? Fuck those guys right?

Kachilde,

But they don’t learn when you train them. They mashup what they have been fed, and shit out an approximation of your request each time. When you type “in the style of xyz”, the system doesn’t remember who xyz is. It does a search for data on xyz, and copies it.

If these models were learning, you wouldn’t still need paragraph long prompts every time you wanted to plop out another plastic-skinned anime chick with fucked-up flipper hands and huge bazoongas. It would have learned how to make that shit by now.

Kachilde,

When these fools talk about ‘gender identity’, they don’t mean cis, hetero-normative gender identity. They assume that goes without saying because everyone thinks like them.

Would love to see them flip their lids when teachers start handing out barbies and tutus to pre-school boys.

Kachilde,

“Remembering Prey”? The game is 7 years old, and has a release on current gen consoles. The nostalgia cycle is starting to spiral in on itself. Get ready for “Remember Baldurs Gate 3” next month.

If we want to talk about a game that is about ready for a nostalgic revival, featured unique gameplay for the time, told a story with interesting lore, and had the potential for interesting sequels, let’s remember Prey (2006). Also, it had a bus full of evil ghost kids on a spaceship. Can’t beat that.

Kachilde,

Well first off, most paraplegics still have use of their arms, so drawing should not be a problem there.

Quadriplegics have access to digital interfaces and there are many example of an artists who use their mouths to paint. Henry Salas has lost function in 90% of his body and has been a digital artist for over a decade. www.henrysalas.com/digital-art

Kachilde,

The men who are insulted are making the statement about them. They are too small-minded to consider that the analogy is about how women feel in our world today, not about picking on men. You watch movies and smugly pick out plot holes, while the symbolism and meaning fly miles over your head. We don’t need to know bear attack statistics to wonder why women are choosing the bear.

If you feel attacked by the bear talk, you either lack empathy, or are the strange man in the woods. Either way I don’t need you repping my gender thanks.

Kachilde,

Consider what you just said about bears.

Now consider that any woman you tell that to is still likely to pick the bear than the strange man who spouts statistics about bear attacks in order to be picked to spend time alone with her in the woods.

This discussion isn’t about statistics. The fact that a woman can tell you directly what she wants, and you can tell her she’s wrong because of xyz, is why it will always and forever be the bear.

Kachilde,

Are you implying that Spotify used user data to generate these advertisements, rather than just paying the marketing firm that definitely came up with this idea?

Also, way to add an extra layer to the promotion.

*braces for down votes and possible ban* (pawb.social)

I’ve been seeing a worrying number of these people on Lemmy lately, sharing enlightened takes including but not limited to “voting for Biden is tantamount to fascism” and “the concept of an assigned gender, or even an assigned name, at birth is transphobic” and none of them seem to be interested in reading more than...

Kachilde,

The difference is that revolutions HAVE happened throughout history, and have been successful.

Comparing a political act that has historical precedent to a bible story with no basis in fact is probably the most flaccid “both sides” centrist argument I’ve ever heard.

Kachilde,

“But if reviewers openly talk about how bad a product is, how is it supposed to scam enough money out of buyers to fund the next scam product? You are literally ruining the lives of tech bros everywhere!”

Kachilde,

Gotta get that little snooty dog in there that Gen-Z and Millennials are buying high quality, expensive groceries, to make sure we know it’s our own damn fault because we won’t bend over and suffer by eating store-brand cornflakes with water for dinner.

Keeping in mind those store-brand cornflakes now cost the same as a box of Kellogg did 5 years ago.

Kachilde,

Don’t kid yourself Richard, If Zuckerberg ever got the chance he’d eat you and everyone you care about!

But seriously, you worry about a divided humanity? We’ve been divided for centuries, and the people at the top aren’t going to willingly step down from their mountain of corpses to slum it with the rest of us.

Kachilde,

Ew.

Kachilde,

No more rude than stealing the work of artists to play a silly game on the internet.

Kachilde,

If Trump doesn’t like Rudd, I can only assume he is as competent at the job as he appears.

The coalition can fuck right off of they think we want someone that Trump would like doing the job. Stop trying to capitulate to the wannabe dictator that isn’t even in power, just because you idolise the mutiny he attempted.

Kachilde,

It’s really getting to me how many people are memeing Paul turning into a worm.

It feels like it’s a fact that was misinterpreted from one of those “7 CRAZY Things that Happen in the DUNE Novels - You’ll never believe number 6!” Videos. But because they haven’t read the books, they assume it must be Paul that worms out because he’s the Main Character, right?

Kachilde,

Desaturated, cel-shaded, and then added the orange glow of flames to one of his Facebook photos…

Kachilde,

You know you have a good post here when people are immediately hostile to you. And people who are replying specifically to tell you that they don’t care about your opinion, who clearly haven’t had their morning coffee.

As someone who just gets sweaty when they drink coffee, I don’t begrudge people who get a kick out of it. But there are too many people who make their caffeine addiction a part of their personality.
