The BBC on Mastodon: experimenting with distributed and decentralised social media (www.bbc.co.uk)

“As the social media landscape ebbs and flows, the team at BBC Research & Development are researching social technologies and exploring possibilities for the BBC. One part of our work is to establish a BBC presence in the distributed collection of social networks known as the Fediverse, a collection of social media...

Kushi,

That’s true, but to be honest there’s already a pretty good verification system on Mastodon, even if you don’t host your own instance.

Kushi,

Most of Europe (outside of the UK) does this.

Kushi,

Separate bidets are a thing, but only in older houses.

Kushi,

Je suis passé à Dvorak il y a quelques années et je ne regrette pas.
Pour les caractères non-ASCII, j’utilise la touche de composition sous Linux (ou via WinCompose quand je suis sous Windows), ça marche très bien.

Kushi,

USB-C docks not made specifically for the Switch seem to be hit and miss.

As an alternative, you can check out the Genki Covert Dock and Covert Dock Mini that work well with the Switch and the Deck and are really small, so great for traveling.
Unfortunately they’re rated for 25W and 20W respectively, while the Deck usually requires 38W for full-speed charge, so it won’t charge as well as the official Valve dock and it doesn’t have power pass-through.

Kushi,

Automatic conversion to Kepub is a benefit Calibre has, but the same thing can be done by running Kepubify before copying the files manually.

Kushi,

I just recently heard of BlueSky. How is it different from Mastodon? Does it promise to improve on ActivityPub in some way?

Kushi,

There's a new engine that's been in development these last few months (available on the beta channel on PC) that greatly improves the performance. This might be what's going to be used on the Switch release.

Kushi,

It adds a checkmark next to the link on the user's profile. For example: https://mastodon.social/@neilhimself.
It also shows the link(s) with the checkmark(s) when searching for users, like so: Neil Gaiman Mastodon profile search result

Has anyone made a Chrome/Firefox extension that adds a button to any non-"home" kbin/lemmy instance magazine that lets you subscribe to it?

Basically, I want to be lazy and be able to click "subscribe" on any magazine/lemmy version of magazine in the threadiverse without manually changing the url to kbin.social/m/whatever@blah.tld....

Kushi, (edited )

There's https://github.com/daniel-lxs/kbin-link for !magazine@instance links that works with Firefox and Chrome.

Kushi,
Kushi,

On Lemmy you can save posts using the star icon (or the bookmark icon on Jerboa for Android). For Kbin, I think you can favorite a comment/post by clicking the up arrow on the top-right. This should allow you to later find it on https://kbin.social/fav.
The author of the article I posted also shared it on m/reddit and on Mastodon.

Kushi,

I never realized how much some people rely on Reddit for social interaction. It's truly fascinating. Also, their unwillingness to even consider using other platforms.

Kushi,

There's also been a lot of misinformation and misunderstandings going on regarding the blackout, which doesn't help.

Kushi,

It unfortunately seems that people aren't willing to move or even try another platform. There's barely any mention of Lemmy on the subreddit.
