I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot lately and your comment is interesting. Your first sentence is definitely phrased in a more controversial way than the rest of your comment, but I can’t help seeing it as very similar to “Being depressed is a choice the vast majority of the time, and I have a huge bias against depressed people.” Is that an unfair comparison?

I know that treating fatness/obesity as a disease is kinda controversial but I feel like folks give people dealing with mental health a lot more grace than people dealing with health issues related to being fat. I’ve also heard that for some people they can be perfectly healthy at a higher weight (though this is clearly not the case for many fat people who are seeing health impacts). I guess I’m assuming that a lot of fat people would potentially like to be less so, but can’t (for any number of reasons) quite get there. This seems really similar for me to people dealing with depression, anxiety, etc who want to change things but keep falling back into the problem.

I guess my question is do you have bias against people who can’t escape other bad cycles like mental health or even stuff like alcoholism? Or is it more just that you think it’s fair to judge people without the discipline/willpower to get out of a state they didn’t want to be in, like you did.

Do people actually like commander?

Like it’s the most annoying format every where 2 year olds always complain about your deck and don’t actually want you to win but just shuffle cards around for no reason and if you ever win they all just complain that you are playing a good deck (which is the entire point of the game), because all the annoying salty people...

I like Commander.

I’m not the first to say this, but it is definitely unfortunate that Commander has become a lot of people’s introduction to Magic - it is strategically incredibly complicated, takes a long time to understand if you don’t know all the staple cards, the meta and unspoken rules are completely socially dependent, and there’s lots of politics - these are all really difficult for players who are new to Magic or a game store or a social group.

That being said, I think Commander is the most fun format for established players who have a consistent playgroup that creates an ongoing culture. The options are limitless, really, so everyone can express themselves through deck construction. The other way I’ve really loved Commander is in explicitly competitive formats, like budget leagues or tournaments with set-in-stone rules. If the rules are known up front then everyone knows that LD, Stax, or combos are on the table and salt is just clearly bad sportsmanship. You can’t really avoid poor sports in any game, unfortunately.

Yeah I agree - the Activity tab and the DMs look like they are exact copies of the Teams interface. I mean, it’s an intuitive way to display info but I don’t see much design innovation with this announcement

Pretty exciting addition for Victoria 3. The game still has some problems (warfare) but I think it’s got a good economic base loop and will keep getting better. I certainly find it fun even if warfare kinda sucks

Oh wow you have dredged up some very deep memories from my childhood. Haven’t thought about the Music Man in years…

I don’t know if there’s good data on the sugary drinks tax yet, but tobacco taxes have absolutely greatly reduced tobacco use. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3228562/From the intro of that article:

Tobacco taxation, passed on to consumers in the form of higher cigarette prices, has been recognized as one of the most effective population-based strategies for decreasing smoking and its adverse health consequences

I think in the near term there will be a lot more discourse about fatphobia/body types as a protected class.

In the longer term, I think history will look back at current factory farming as absolutely barbaric.

I think the way it’s written it could just mean Fairies, since I can’t imagine they won’t be a theme given what we know.

If not fairies, it could be Dwarves (though there has been tribal support before, it hasn’t actually been an archetype), Ogres, or Trolls (are there enough trolls in fairy tales?)

Any aspiring symbologists out here? (lemmy.ca)

I found this at a thrift store a few years ago and I’ve struggled to identify any of the symbols. I’ve tried online symbol databases, I think I tried reverse image searching, and I’ve tried just scrolling endless “fish” symbols to no avail. It’s handmade and uses poly-fabrics, so it’s certainly not an antique (or...

I’d guess it is some group of Christian symbols, possibly homemade.

  1. Cross
  2. Stylized cross
  3. ?
  4. triangle shape possibly represents the trinity?
  5. Fish - associated with Jesus
  6. Backwards bow and arrow - ?
  7. 4 Candles, associated with the period of Advent in most Christian denominations

If you’re referring to the city in English you would say “bo-LO-nya” to approximate the original. I’ve heard it on the radio/podcasts before. It’s not very commonly referenced so trying to get closer to the original is probably right. Unlike Paris, where you are seen as pretentious if you pronounce it the French way.

Does your phone have Samsung Modes and Routines? If so, you can make a Mode that sets Display to Always On.

Ah bummer. Not sure if there’s an easy way then.

Sync had this feature when I tried it, but I’m still using Liftoff since I was encountering bugs in Sync and I didn’t like the UI as much

Wow, this is wild. Drifting very far from the previously established Magic aesthetic. I actually think the ‘Murders at Karlov Manor’ set could be really cool; I was pleasantly surprised by how New Capenna turned out. And definitely looking forward to Redwall world.

I hope Karn gets banned in both Pioneer and modern.

I hope The One Ring gets banned in modern. But I think that is really unlikely to happen.

Reposting the template link from the other post for folks working on this: canvas.toast.ooo/#x=594&y=692&scale=7.39&…

We’ve clearly switched the main color from #7 to .

I’ve started working on the gray “second border” around the whole design.

Compares pretty closely to [[Lolth]], which saw play. The card draw mode is better, I don’t think that selection should be discounted. Given how strong black is already, I just don’t know if there is a slot for this. No built in removal is a real issue for control.

Lumun,
@Lumun@lemmy.zip avatar

Idk. The ultimate is better but the static is worse in standard I think since it requires buildaroung to get value. 2/1s and reach make blocks a lot better.~~ Plus 1 is better in a vacuum but worse in a meta with Sheoldred~~ Actually strike that the +1 is still better regardless of Shelly

Good to see the community here grow. I’ve been playing on and off since Eldritch Moon and my current favorite deck is EDH [[Wort, the Raidmother]] token storm.
