Busy ceramics day. I finished trimming a little marbled bud case, glazed the geometric mug set, finished building my marbled triangle thing, and got my ring jug and pipes sculpture back from glaze firing

I also trimmed this large porcelain bowl I threw last week. This is my biggest bowl so far

I threw another porcelain bowl today that I will trim on Thursday

Sometimesi trim bowls do be very smooth, but I decided I wanted this one to have prominent trimming marks. They might result in some interesting glaze effects

@bytex64 I think a lot of my projects are smaller scale than what YouTube makers do. Most of them are things I can get done with a few free hours here and there

MLE_online,

@crazybutable that was another reason i didn't want to do it anymore. the videos take up way too much disk space

@billyjoebowers I enjoy watching them because I learn a lot. I just don't enjoy making them

My friend Bill Daniel does these shows. Filmmaker, train hobo, pink artist weirdo. Known him since the 80s. He's currently living in an art trailer park up in the Bay area Delta, which is a tremendously fucked up and fascinating place (Wikipedia Locke, CA).

@tomjennings I love Locke! After I learned about it, I started making a point to detour over there when I'm headed up the 5 to oregon or norcal. It feels so different than anywhere else in california

@tomjennings at least there's probably swimming holes to go in though. And shady trees

If I'm going to naturally wake up at dawn whether I want to or not, maybe I should just start going to bed at sunset

MLE_online,
@MLE_online@social.afront.org avatar

@brennen its true that our identities are mutable, but there's also the question of how much you want to fight with your own body for an identity it doesn't agree with. maybe I'm supposed to just be a person who goes to bed early

@brennen yes, going outside for physical activities and experiencing sunlight are among the things such people do

@morgan @jasoncoon Yes, it's rational. I have a mostly flat roof, and if not for my landlords, i would build an entire deck up there to increase the amount of space i have

I spent way too much time today disassembling two bicycle wheels, so that I could begin the process of transplanting this Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub into a 27 inch rim that will fit my road bike.

While I had the hub free of a wheel, I ended up partially disassembling it so I could clean it and grease it, since it felt pretty gunky and sticky when spinning.

I was too scared to take it completely apart because there are a lot of little pieces inside, but I took it apart enough to get it working well again. It looks much nicer now too

@MrNick2 One of these would make it feasible for me to make these flange adapters at home

More plotting and scheming

MLE_online,
@MLE_online@social.afront.org avatar

@esnyder i put the heads of the bolts facing out because if they faced in towards the center of the hub, it would be super annoying to tighten them all.

I am actually hoping I don't have to thread either the flange or the plate and I can just put nuts on the back side
