MaddestMax,

Isn’t the Pine64 product called the PineBuds? The case is nicked the Pinepod, but that’s not really the same.

MaddestMax,

So much this. I mean, obviously my specific is different than yours. Lol. But same idea. It reminds me of summer nights outside of Sonora. Outdoor fire burning just because we could. I smell it and it just takes me right back. It’s why I’m worried it won’t be the same. 🤞🏻

MaddestMax,

Nice! I have the old splash and it’s glorious. A little goes a long way.

MaddestMax,

10,000 Sentences is new to me!! I’ll add it to the list of apps that I’ll eventually use to learn a new language. 😏

MaddestMax,

Ha! Ouch. Too true. Also, wezterm. I’ve been changing my config everyday for days now.

Privacy friendly fitness tracker recommendations

I’m looking for advice on a privacy friendly fitness tracker. One that doesn’t require storing my personal data on a third party site, where I can sync the data locally using an open source program. I do have a PineTime but it doesn’t really track metrics and I question the accuracy of the heat rate monitor. FitBit is...

MaddestMax,

I’ll echo what @otter said, Garmin is really the only way to go. Currently. You can basically run them completely disconnected from Garmin after you get them setup.

I’ll also echo what @ExtremeDullard said but qualify it by saying the PineTime is…a piece of junk. I wanted SO much to like it, but nothing about it works the way that is intended. It will not monitor your heart rate accurately. At least not for longer than 30 seconds. It will also not keep accurate count of your steps. It just doesn’t have sensitive/effective enough hardware for it. The firmware and OS are barely maintained. It’s sad, but true. I’ll be the first person in line to drop $500 on an Apple Watch or Samsung Watch equal FOSS watch. The market just doesn’t seem to be there.

MaddestMax,

We’re now friends. :)

MaddestMax,

Re FUTO: how do you feel about their license? I’ve seen some drama around it. Doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies either. Nice list, btw.

MaddestMax,

Sorry I missed this earlier. And thanks for the update. I think we’re similar in our thought process. I appreciate your input. Also, Rossman is almost enough to make me walk the opposite direction. Almost. :)

MaddestMax,

To add to this, “Kvaesitso is available in the official F-Droid repository, but all features depending on non-foss external APIs were removed.” This is preferable to a lot of people.

MaddestMax,

Been using KISS Launcher very happily. Worth a look.

Looking for a FOSS replacement for Yelp/Mapstr

Like the title implies, I’m looking for a way to keep track of places I go. If the ratings system doesn’t exist, that’s okay. The important part is keeping track of places I’ve been, on what date and how often. I know this could be done with a spreadsheet, but that’s sounds like work, and I’m lazy. I couldn’t find...

MaddestMax,

I’ve messed with owntracks. It’s awesome, but more complex than what I’m looking for. Great software, though. Thanks for the idea.

MaddestMax,

I use and love Joplin. It seems like for this use case, it’d be a step better than a spreadsheet. I want something that’s more like tap a button and add a name if necessary. Great suggestion, though. Thanks!

MaddestMax,

A+ for the Brian Regan reference. He’s magic.
