"(1/4) However much one laments and even wishes somehow to atone for the loss of life and suffering visited upon innocents because of Palestinian violence, there is still the need, I think, also to say that no national movement has been so unfairly penalized, defamed, and sujected to disproportionate retaliation for its sins as has the Palestinian."

"(2/4) The Israeli policy of punitive counterattacks (or state terrorism) seems to try to kill anywhere from 50 to 100 Arabs for every Jewish fatality. The devastation of Lebanese refugee camps, hospitals, schools, mosques, churches, and orphanages; the summary arrests, deportations, house destructions, maimings, and torture of Palestinians on the West Bank and Gaza; (...)."

What are the evidence-based recommendations about booster after covid infection?

In Luxembourg, the vaccine is available from doctors and pharmacies, depending on demand. If I have to wait 3 months, it will be in January, when no-one will be looking for the vaccine. I read that the CDC says that the booster can be obtained as soon as recovery is complete. Any data/info on this?

Thank you!

@inquiline Thanks for your reply! Yes, it makes sense for the immunity. I think I'll try to find a way of getting vaccinated in December-January. The problem is that pharmacies only open a bottle of vaccine if they have enough appointments. People are getting vaccinated now, in January, so I don't know how I'm going to manage.

@inquiline I'm going to explore what's possible, because waiting until September-October 2024 seems really scary to me.

On top of that, I caught covid for the first time since the start of the pandemic. So far, the symptoms are manageable, apart from the toothache, why didn't anyone warn me?

@inquiline I stopped systematically wearing a mask this summer, and resumed for public transport, hospitals and public places in September. I went to a conference on Tuesday where I wanted to network (I'm looking for work, and wearing a mask is... complicated). So far it's manageable, but it's no mild flu. And I'm angry that everyone's pretending it doesn't exist.

This time every year, the ravens and crows go through a molt. It looks uncomfortable and itchy and they're certainly not at their sleek best for a few weeks.

This photo of a crow drinking from a fresh water drainage in the seawall illustrates why the molt is so important. Look the the mechanical damage and light damage to the old, tattered brown feathers, compared with the new black ones growing in.

@ct_bergstrom I'm happy to read this because I was worried that the crows that use our public bird baths (a large bowl of water on our balcony) would get sick.

Finished this project (early) this morning as a gift for a friend, the first time I've quilted a larger piece, really enjoyed the process, including making the bias to match the main fabric and even doing all the finishing by hand so the jacket is reversible. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to sew the pockets, which is against my principles*.

Pattern: Tamarack Jacket (Grainline Studio)
Fabrics: Merchant & Mills, Liberty fabrics

Photo of a quilted jacket, the other side, in a blue-toned fabric. The seams are finished with a hand-sewn bias, which gives the jacket structure.
Photo of the process of quilting the pieces that make up the jacket (here the sleeves). The cotton fabrics are sandwiched around a batting fabric, pinned and held together with provisional hand stitches.
