Flooring done in back room. The thing about laminate “click” flooring is it is designed to install in one direction. Which is fine normally. But this room was not renovated, because, well it was a mess. The old dry wall was basically one big patch, so we left it until the time was right to put in new drywall.

So the trick was to start at the outside wall and make it land at the flooring in the hall. And <he says, pleased with himself> I mostly succeeded.

@NunavutBirder Just finished a floor at work using the same type of flooring. Your pattern came out looking cleaner than mine!

Another European invention which is relatively unknown. The Kachelöfen, which is a wood fired Masonry heater covered in ceramic tiles.
Once the fire is burning hot, you can redirect the exhaust through the large area on the left and then through the seating area on the right before sending it outside. They store an amazing amount of heat and this one was still radiating lots of heat in the evening after only having the fire going in the morning for a couple hours.

Visiting my friend who moved from the Yukon to southern France into the Pyrénées. Very cool and mountainous area, with little villages hung on the sides of mountains all over. Mostly a touristy area, I didn’t see many people but apparently it gets absolutely packed in the winter from the people going to the many ski resorts in the area.

Small French town of Gavarnie surrounded by tall mountains
Snow capped mountain range near Gavarnie-Gèdre, with a small house near the front edge
Leaf and needle trees in full fall colors of red, yellow, green

McYukon,
@McYukon@alaskan.social avatar

@seachanger He sold everything in the Yukon, built out a van and traveled France for 9 months looking for a spot he liked. Unfortunately the area attracts mostly winter ski tourists so well paying jobs are in short supply and super seasonal and he’s still looking for something decent.

My first time ever riding an e-bike, with my Uncle. Going uphill in Turbo assist mode makes one feel like Superman. Haha

Fun fact, e-bikes in Germany are only allowed to be pedal assist, and the assist is required to cut out over 25 km/hr

Picturesque mowed hill with a German farm house on the top and fall colored trees

I’m in Europe right now for 3 weeks visiting family/friends, so expect quite a few pics for awhile ;)
I left Whitehorse Friday at -15C and get here to +10C, it’s almost like going back in time to spring lol.

@seachanger And it doesn’t stop at cars, a vast majority of people in Whitehorse have their entire life borrowed from the banks.

    Truck payments ~$800/m
    RV payments ~$500/m
ATV/ side by side payments ~$300/m
    Snow machine payments ~$300

I’m always aghast when talking to people about money/debt. Nobody seems to care about being in debt.

I consider myself lucky I got the old school German “Don’t buy anything except a house on credit” gene from my parents haha.
