Can I use Google Play without a Sim card?

Can I use Google Play without a SIM card? I listen to audiobooks and don’t want to drain the battery on my personal phone so was going to buy a mini android and download Libby onto it and use that for listening to audiobooks but I don’t want to buy one if that won’t work. I have searched for my answer and can’t really...

Michal,

That depends on your phone. I have an LG (android lollipop) phone that simply won’t let me use the os without a simcard.

Michal,

Cycling is definitely more freedom than car. Don’t need a license, fuel, insurance, etc. And you’re not affected by traffic.

Road trips are fun, yes, but have nothing ro do with city congestion.

Michal, (edited )

You can move to somewhere more convenient if you’re not happy. I don’t know what you’re doing in this group anyway.

Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don’t look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I’d go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I...

Michal,

No. Once my app stopped working, I quit cold turkey. I deleted all content from my reddit account and switched to Lemmy.

Michal,

I still haven’t grasped, how is human learning from a book different from machine learning from a book?

If i read your book and then use the knowledge to answer someone’s question is it not the same if machine does it?

Does chat gpt plagiarize the book word for word? Was it trained on an illegally obtained copy?

Still, if i get knowledge from unlicensed copy of a book and use that knowledge, at what point is the law broken?

Michal,

You can’t have one without the other, unless you want to drive your car and expect everyone else to take a bus.

It's so much easier to comment on Lemmy because it isn't a toxic cesspool waiting to tear you apart

It feels like people are a lot nicer here than on Twitter and Reddit, and even when people disagree, it’s generally civil and not an all-out flame war. Also, there’s no algorithm promoting outrage all the time....

Michal,

Reddit used to be like that too, but those people gravitate to the community eventually. I think best we can do is recognize the behaviour early and down vote it on sight.

Michal,

Pandas is more efficient than Python at operating on large datasets. Can you suggest alternarives?

Michal,

The thing about comment chains is you can collapse them so don’t see anything wrong. Let people have their fun and sense of connection with strangers on the internet.

Michal,

Instead of “because lemmy”, I’d say reddit now charges money for the content, but they did not pay the creator.
