NiaTheCat,

The only archive of it was made one day before a satire article writing about it was made, and there are no traces of the website from before that anywhere online. Mods took down the previous thread on this.

It was some writer wanting to get attention who spread it.

Edit: context on why it’s fake: beehaw.org/comment/1430242

There’s also a lot of satire on the original website that posted the article

NiaTheCat, (edited )

Played this back when I was on Xbox, good time killer I was mixing this up with Dungeon of the Endless, this game looks pretty cool though

NiaTheCat,

For the last part of the post about restricting Lemmy because lobbyists/investors don’t like that it can’t be controlled, things like that can actually be protected against happening with Net Neutrality. Which in the US they’re trying to bring back finally fcc.gov/…/chairwoman-rosenworcel-proposes-restore…

Likely wouldn’t help with torrenting sites considering the first go-around with it had “Consumers deserve access to the lawful Internet content of their choice.” as one of the big things which is a contradiction to what Net Neutrality stands for, but it’s at least a step in the right direction.

Looks like they were trying to link here, but the link didn’t work, at least on the instance I’m on. Not sure about others. …locals.com/…/gnome-foundation-hires-professional…

Edit: The first line says it’s not satire, but poking around the site there is definitely some satire articles on there, so I think this is probably malicious satire.

OP’s post links here if it doesn’t work on your instance: …locals.com/…/gnome-foundation-hires-professional…

The first line says “Seriously. This isn’t satire.”, but a few of the other posts are satire on the site (not all), such as “KDE Foundation hires Dwarf Paladin as new Executive Director” and “NetBSD Ported to Cheese Sandwich”. So this is probably malicious satire.

NiaTheCat,

Another user did some digging too and pointed out that the archive was the only one and was made on the day before the article, so the shaman website seems to have been created specifically for that article beehaw.org/comment/1430242

NiaTheCat,

I absolutely will not part with pay to work from home. I will work for my regular pay, from home, instead of from work. If my job even attempts to lower my pay, I’m out and looking for a different one.

No compromises. Most of us are already underpaid when we do the job on-site.

NiaTheCat, (edited )

I know that it wasn’t, that was just an extra thought that I threw in that was related.

I don’t see how it makes my response nonsense, everything was on the topic of accepting lower salary for a new remote position except that sentence. /gen

NiaTheCat, (edited )

Why would I complain? I’d just look for a different one. I’d do that whether I voluntarily quit or if I got fired. I don’t work in a field with very good job security so I always have a few backups planned.

Shelter, Insular (f-droid, FLOSS fork of Shelter), or Android Work Profiles/User Profiles if your phone lets you manually control them. If not, Shelter or Insular manage it for you.

On Samsung, Secure Folder will also do it.

These create a separate user profile that is shown with a little icon on the corner of the app icon, separate from your main phone user profile (this includes being separate from your VPN connection, if any, keep that in mind). They’ll all do what you’re trying to do if you stick your games in them.

NiaTheCat,

There are many people currently in jail for crimes they have never committed, there are people who’ve been arrested simply for looking like the suspect despite not being them, wrongful convictions are an issue and everyone should protect themselves because in a lot of crimes people don’t want justice, they just want someone to punish.

NiaTheCat,

Yattee, it’s an invidious/piped frontend, so you’ll need to find an instance for one, but it’s on the app store or can be sideloaded.

There’s that and uYou+/uYou+ extra which needs to be sideloaded via AltStore or other methods, but doesn’t need a piped or invidious instance and accesses YouTube directly

NiaTheCat,

There are definitely foss apps on iOS and you can sideload without jailbreaking to access more foss apps. Any amount of foss is good regardless of what OS is used.

Important to note that this is a custom temporary license. Doesn’t mean it’s not good, but still something to keep in mind.

gitlab.futo.org/videostreaming/grayjay/…/LICENSE

ghostarchive.org/archive/dD09d (click “Archived page not showing up? Click here.” on the left side)

edit: removed archive.org link because it wasn’t loading properly

edit 2: corrected some mistakes about the source

NiaTheCat,

The main right missing is for others to use the code for any commercial reasons, while checking I re-read the license again and realized I made some mistakes, so I fixed those in my comment.

I guess it is open source depending on definitions of it, and I was just being nitpicky, but not FOSS since it does restrict the purposes that the code can be used for, giving futo more rights than forks would have as well as the control to cut others off from the code at any time

We may suspend, terminate or vary the terms of this license and any access to the code at any time, without notice, for any reason or no reason, in respect of any licensee, group of licensees or all licensees including as may be applicable any sub-licensees.

NiaTheCat,

I’ve never heard of him before Grayjay suddenly started trending on here, so I’ll only trust them after this has existed for a little while due to them being able to change the license terms so freely (not that they will or not)

Without a fully open license I just don’t trust someone who comes in suddenly doing it differently than everyone else. Assuming they end up being trustworthy this will be a great thing though.

NiaTheCat,

I’ll still wait to see, repairing devices and advocating for the right to repair is not the same thing as developing a video app and open source licensing

I wouldn’t assume by default that a person who knows how to build and repair a rocket also knows how to reach the moon in one.

I don’t expect others to be skeptical just because I think it is, but I just prefer to wait and see on these things regardless of who’s in charge of it, I’ve been burned by things that were supposed to be trustworthy before.

NiaTheCat,

I’m skeptical of the app, but it’s not a YouTube knockoff, you have to make sure the YouTube source is enabled

NiaTheCat,

Would like to add to this that invidious on web can proxy your videos like Piped does but you have to enable it in settings first, not sure when they added it but they have that now

NiaTheCat,

Modded discord is the only way I can tolerate it anymore, custom UI and plugins take a lot of the friction away on both mobile and desktop, Discord still needs a viable competitor though so stuff doesn’t get trapped only on Discord, and so they have an incentive to improve stuff instead of enshittification

The issue with modded Discord is the ban risk, despite how uncommon it is, the risk is still there

NiaTheCat,

Simple SMS is what I use, I use almost their whole suite of apps. The ones on the Play Store are limited, but the ones they put on F-Droid are full-featured (It’s an open source app suite, but the play store versions are that freemium donation style kinda thing).

Here’s the link to their whole app suite on F-Droid, has all the essentials like file manager, camera, dialer, calendar, contacts, calculator, etc. The “Simple Thank You” app (also on F-droid) works as a theme manager for all the app suite, so you can set a theme you like and then pick “shared” as the theme in all the other apps search.f-droid.org/?q=simplemobiletools&lang=…

Most importantly, they actually seem to get updates unlike a lot of these style of apps sadly, I wish there were more options available that weren’t abandoned.

NiaTheCat,

Not directly, but you can use KDE Connect (Windows, Linux, and Mac are supported) to do it by pairing your phone and PC through it. It’s not as nice an experience as Google Messages on PC, but you can send, get notifications for, and reply to sms in your PC’s notifications after it’s set up
