@jacqueline I'm biased because my Power Wheels car as a kid had a Tortoise-Hare speed selector

The anti-MIC screed today was probably brought to you by the fact that I was awakened by about 8 to 10 extremely low, extremely fast flyovers this morning.

The argument against nuclear power is ridiculous on a planet with this many nuclear weapons. We have a loaded gun pointed at our heads 24/7 and we can't use it to scratch behind our ear?

North,
@North@chaos.social avatar

@MLE_online I would've thought that, too, but I've talked to more people than I would have expected who think we can't put the toothpaste back in the tube with nuclear weapons, but we have a chance to stop nuclear power, which is wild.

North,
@North@chaos.social avatar

@acsawdey @MLE_online We traded millions of invisible deaths for a literal handful of highly publicized deaths, which is our way.

North,
@North@chaos.social avatar

@MLE_online (To clarify for spectators, I think we ARE stopping nuclear power quite effectively. What I think is ridiculous is the idea that it would be desirable to do that and/or that it atones in any way for nuclear proliferation.)

@gigabecquerel we agree

SciShow, what the fuck.

ok im not going to go into big details, but here are things they need to be corrected on

  • progesterone does, in fact, work, and does not have a blood clot risk
  • estrogen monotherapy works
  • your bones can change over time, a bit
  • finasteride and dutasteride are not T-blockers, they only block DHT, a byproduct of T and will not help you on their own
  • breast growth does not stop after three years
  • spending your life on just spiro, no E, is actually dangerous as hell, don't fucking do that if you like having bones

they should be ashamed of themselves. spread this if you care about the transfems in your life

18+ North,
@North@chaos.social avatar

@rachaelspooky I just watched the video out of curiosity and I didn't come away with the impression that they got any of these things wrong. I think they're correct that "some studies suggest," that prog carries an increased risk of clotting but that it "doesn't seem to be a big risk."

I think SciShow is... fine. Not great, most of the time. But as "HRT Misinfo" on the internet goes? I'll take it.

18+ North,
@North@chaos.social avatar

@rachaelspooky I think we should always expect better from mainstream science communicators, absolutely. But I also think where SciShow erred, they erred on the side of caution. I would've killed for a video like this from a mainstream science communicator 10 years ago.

There is an engineer at work who regularly answers questions in the group chat with ChatGPT output and I would fire him if I could.

AI products like ChatGPT much hyped but not much used, study says https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c511x4g7x7jo The findings were based on responses to an online questionnaire fielded in six countries: Argentina, Denmark, France, Japan, the UK, and the USA.

@nixCraft And it's still used too much and in fields where it does a poor job

Really enjoying Somerville so far, which is on sale and Steam Deck verified. It's made by some of the same people that made Limbo and Inside, which are two of my favorite games. It reminds me in ways of the classic "Out Of This World".
