Fun things about manufacturing physical things: considering all the permutations in variances in tolerance

eg. if the screw-holes are 0.1mm larger than model, and the screws are 0.13mm longer than model, and then repeat this for the front and back… are the screws going to run into each other in the middle?

jacqueline,
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

@buzzyrobin this will never happen to me i’m too lucky

it's a great protocol it divides devices into two types:

targets, e.g. your headphones, which play sound

and controllers, e.g. your headphones, that have a button on them

I'm on a bit of a tool hunt to improve the speed and quality of rework, and I found this tiny hot plateOHMYGODITSSOCUTE!!!!!

Seriously though, it's surprisingly effective when paired with a good hot air tool.

Also, I've already burned myself quite badly. Useful, yes. Safe, no.

jacqueline,

@PKL can we get a look at the power cable for this. very curious about the power cable. it's normal, right? a normal power cable?

Well I'm not sure I agree with your decision to automatically set up systemd-boot as my UEFI boot manager just because I'm installing the systemd-boot package.

I literally just wanted to read the manpage and play around with bootctl.

I especially disagree with your decision to first fuck with my existing, working GRUB2 installation and then copy kernel and initrd to /boot/efi, which turns out to be not large enough on my system, leading to a somewhat broken boot setup.

jacqueline,
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

@scy how about systemd love

it’s 100% a psychological thing but i do think music from my tangara sounds better than other sources

jacqueline,

@buzzyrobin i've been a lost cause for a while now i think

i want an audiophile to review it partly for fun, and partly to confirm my based-on-nothing impression that is does in fact have 'good bass'

jacqueline,
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

@alex_the_average i guess you’d be an audio mistress now cause of woke

jacqueline,
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

@solarisfire i find there's a lot more diversity to the term than that definition. that's definitely one camp, yes, but it's far from the only kind of audiophile

the thermostat in this place is wireless and talks to the boiler over radio... but something happened (?) and it's no longer working. and i noticed that i'm cold.

fortunately i had a recording of the thermostat's boiler-on and boiler-off commands on my flipper zero.

so now flipper zero is a key part of how i'm going to not freeze to death while asleep

jacqueline,
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

@whitequark guy with jpeg tux avi: hey qq have u thought about doing the literal first and most obvious debugging step?

jacqueline, to random
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

the thing about c++ is you can do

std::numeric_limits<uint32_t>::max()

and be technically correct, portable, more expressive, etc.

or you can just do

UINT32_MAX

which is probably Wrong and Bad in many ways, but has the strong advantage of not sucking ass

jacqueline,
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

@oblomov no worries mate

jacqueline,
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

@icing they are working on this with ai i believe

jacqueline, to random
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

i’m pretty happy with my current mouse, but i think i would like it even more if it had an extra button ‘for ai’. please tech companies invent this key innovation

jacqueline,
@jacqueline@chaos.social avatar

@river all of tangara's buttons are AI in the sense that they have an Australian Inventor
