As I said, I’ve had a challenging week.

Before it got challenging however I managed to find a little time to play…

Returnal

Initial impressions are that this game rocks. And I do think that holds true for the first ten hours. The issue I’m having, is that…I cannot stand rogue likes, and this is a rogue like. Every fibre of my being wishes it was a more souls like experience, but it aint. And the thought of having a 6-7 hour run just seems so impossibly far away that it may push me away entirely. However, that’s a Me thing. This game is amazing, I just wish I could love it for what it was.

Suzerain: Kingdom of Rizia DLC

I like shooty shooty but I also like talky talky. The KoR DLC for Suzerain is exactly that. You take the role of a newly anointed monarch as he tries to lead his country through the maze of world politics. There’s twenty minute long conversations about public infrastructure funding, the occasional assassination attempt and a lot of driving in cars with your personal guard. Yeah. I love this stuff.

I’m sure social media is having an effect on our kids. I’m also sure they’re more tuned into the state of the world than I was when I was a teenager, and they see just how utterly broken everything is.

Prefer digital because space is a factor in my house. I love the idea of physical, and I’ll usually go that way for art or reference books. However paperback equivalent I’m always going digital.

Although if I really love a book I’ll always look to add it to my bookshelf at some point.

Might also explain why Cricket is so popular. Obviously it still requires a fair amount of physical exertion but it’s definitely a bit more laid back than something like Rugby.

I can see both arguments for and against voting for a third party. Ultimately it’s your call and you’re gonna do what you’re gonna do. I do think it’s a sign of a deeply broken system when people can legitimately think that casting your vote for another candidate is a waste though.

I’m in the UK and whilst it’s not exactly the same an awful lot of people will say that a vote for anyone that isn’t Labour is a vote for the Big Bad Tories. And whilst I do agree that it probably doesn’t help get rid of the Tories it’s also a pretty bad indictment of how broken the electoral system is.

I’ve only really had four jobs. All retail and warehouse. So, it’s kinda hard to decide which was the worst so I’m gonna go with the one I lasted one day on before walking out.

It was at a large garden centre. I spent the entire day standing behind the till. Standing. Assistants weren’t allowed to sit down because they’d occasionally have to help a customer or move a large plant onto the checkout, which apparently the customer couldn’t do?

Anyway I walked in the following morning and said it wasn’t for me. I could have ghosted them, but I thought I owed them that much…Sods didn’t pay me; fuck 'em.

What’s the correct way of handling those calls. I’ll usually just let them say their bit and then say I’m not interested, which I think is fair but I wonder if it’s not easier for everyone involved to just cut them up and say you’re not interested immediately.

My partner’s mum gets right on my goat because she insists on being an absolute arse on the phone. I get it, it’s annoying but I don’t understand the need to be a total see you next Tuesday to the person on the phone. Hang up and move on.

I’ve had a week off work so I’ve played a fair bit more than I would normally. Threw a few things off of my backlog that I didn’t connect with and then spent a fair bit of time with…

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Had a really good time with this one, especially in the first 10 or so hours. It did fall away towards the end, largely because it gets increasingly difficult as you go along. That’s not a criticism of the game as much as it’s an acknowledgement that I don’t love super tough platforming in games. Ultimately I used the games pretty great accessibility features to knock the difficulty right down and got to the end whilst also feeling like a total badass.

Returnal

I’ve had less time with this as I only started it yesterday whilst waiting for Demons Souls to download. And I think it’s safe to say that Demons Souls will have to wait. Returnal feels like something totally fresh and new to me. I’ve got no effing idea what’s going on, and I don’t really understand how the game works, but I’m having a total blast so far.

I think they’ve had some injuries to key guys (Vasilevski), and they’re playing in a pretty tough division.
