Hey.

I’m Dan. A 35 year old father of two who doesn’t have nearly as much time as he needs to do half the things he wishes he had the time to do.

As a parent I’m not opposed to this. My child gets 6/7/8 weeks off and it’s going to be an absolute nightmare to sort out childcare when her youngest brother is also at school (currently my partner is off work on the days I work so it’s not an issue).

Both sets of grandparents work and we’re not really in a position to pay for childcare or any of those holiday clubs. Not to mention that after 4 weeks the kids are bored out of their minds.

Much prefer the shorter and longer half term breaks.

Whilst I don’t doubt we’ll see this sort of thing, I don’t think it’s gonna have much to do with the Tories inevitable defeat in the coming election.

That said, it’s definitely something we’re going to have to figure out in the coming years.

I don’t think there’s gonna be a landslide or anything, but I don’t think they’ve got a hope in hell of being the largest party in 2025.

[Weekly Thread] What We're Playing - 26th February 2024

A new week doth commence, and with it, the chronicle of our digital exploits! Upon the illuminated screen, I have ventured into fantastical realms and embarked upon valiant quests. Though I cannot boast of jousting tournaments or fire-breathing dragons, mine adversaries have been no less formidable - cunning puzzles and...

Overwatch was extremely my shit for about 8 beautiful months. And then, when I failed to earn a seasonal Soldier skin I decided I couldn’t keep doing this and jumped off.

Overwatch 2 though…maybe.

Feel that, not with RT but with a few other games I played last year. I’ve got very little patience for a game that I feel should have ended already.

Been a quiet week for me.

I ‘finishedHollow Knight last week and I’ve not really played much else. I say finished because whilst I did hit credits there’s the games ‘true ending’ that I thought I’d go back and get, and yet a week later…my interest is waning.

That’s not a fault of the game, more that I’ve got limited time and from what I’ve read, the difficulty spike is pretty noticeable and I’m not sure I want to set off down a road that ultimately leads to a shed load of frustration, which may in turn lead me to resenting the game.

I did however find an hour last night to play a little Vampire Survivors-like game called Death Must Die…It’s still in Early Access, and I’ve only played the hour but I can see this being my new go-to game when I’ve got half an hour free.

Image Vampire Survivors meets Hades. That’s the game. Super addictive, but it’s got an overarching story that’s easier to follow that Vamps was, and it’s got a cast of sexy Hades styled characters that drop in during your run to give you new Boones and what not.

As a GoT fan how dare you…

But I get what you mean.

Big ‘Screw you guys, I’m going home’ energy here.

Corbyn in Labour without the red rosette. I wonder if they’ll even run a candidate in his constituency.

I’m with you, I don’t think he finishes the main series, but (and this is where I think we differ) I’ve found so much joy and interest in the rest of the world, the stories and even the lore around all of it that i can’t consider it a waste of time.

I absolutely love YouTube deel-dives about the characters and the world, I’ve spent hours looking over the maps and even more time reading Martin’s work in the form of Fire and Blood, AKOTSK and the larger reference type books that have come out since Winds was released.

I’m re-reading the main series right now, and whilst I’m fairly confident there’s no pay off I find being in that world, and reading those words to be gift enough to continue with it.

I’m laaaaazy as sin when I’ve finally got the kids to bed so I usually hold it in my right hand and then operate the thing by pressing the buttons with the same hand. If I have to move my left for anything other than moving my drink to my mouth I consider this a loss.

I’ll be honest with you, up until this comment I thought it was fictional.

Are you wanting fiction or nonfiction??

Not entirely related but I’ve read some books on the Franklin expedition and found them fascinating so I’ll definitely take a look.

Yup Libra2. Just about does the job. Kinda tempted to go for a larger screen next time.

Animal Farm is one of my favourites. I’m really into Politics, and AF presents it in a fairly straightforward, yet utterly captivating way. It’s also pretty short so I can get through it in like two or three sessions.

I read 1984 like 15 years ago, during a time when…well frankly I was an idiot teenager who knew nothing of the world. I should go back to that at some point.

Credit where it’s due, I can’t handle more than one book at a time.

[Seiko SCXP175] Was walking around some obscure part of Kyoto yesterday and spotted this piece in a small watch shop for 30,800¥. Such a beauty, I had to get it! (images4.imagebam.com)

I was shrine hunting in Kyoto when I walked into some random market with heaps of small shops. My friend and I were the only tourists there that I could see and we walked past this small watch shop and the yellow watch face caught my eye, not really a pokemon fan but the colour looks so nice!...

This is how I ended up with a 2 foot tall Bill Clinton puppet, but yes I agree.

Lovely find, gorgeous box.
