Jokes on us: like police do all the time, if a judge wants to “find” such a fault - maybe by citing precedence from a thousand years ago? - then they will. Ofc there is no reason to make it easy on them.
They also showed up on January 6th to “defend the Constitution”, and we all see how “Pro-Life” things are these days. Words have no meaning to those who hide behind them, using them as tools to get their way but setting aside what they stand for the moment it becomes convenient to do so.
EDIT: A lot of you are reading into the tweet while still somehow agreeing with the overall message. No one is saying we should eliminate music programs or that we should teach toddlers about healthcare plans. The tweet is making this thing called a --checks notes-- joke, that also conveys the message that schools could teach...
“Theirs not to make reply / Theirs not to reason why / Theirs but to do.” (you don’t learn the last two words of that poem until later, long after you are done with school)
Do ya’ll ever wonder if single family zoning, and car-centric urban planning, are some of the primary factors behind modern adults suffering from rampant loneliness? Two environments renown for fostering friendships and social activities are university campuses, and seasonal jobs in remote locations. What do those two things...
Ironically it’s a tool that could connect us more, but depending on how we use it, it may lead to us being disconnected. e.g. if you rode a bike, you could talk to people more, but ofc that depends on the circumstances in your area.
I think: to make people think that “we” were the ones who chose “this”.
Which hasn’t been true for a long time - I mean most Trump supporters even initially just voted against Hillary Clinton, and the same in reverse, plus you know the electoral college.
Anyway it seems like it used to be mostly a game that the rich let us play, while they buy out both sides no matter who wins. Though I think shit got real with Trump, bc he’s such a loose cannon that even he doesn’t know what he’ll do later that same day - maybe we’ll assassinate some other country’s top general, who knows? Anything could happen!? :-P
Iirc though, he himself kept advising caution in interpreting the stats, even though at the same time he also kept selling them at every opportunity. A lot of the outlets repeating his words were not as careful as he was though.
Basically: for-profit media is gonna do whatever for-profit, I guess. :-| (it doesn’t matter what effect that has upon the entire nation, so long as they bring home the bacon, especially in the short term)
Capcom is adding DRM to their old games, even singleplayer ones. This seems like an intentional move to prevent modding, but it also seems to decrease FPS and cause crashes. What the hell are they thinking?
Which is something that a manager decided to implement, and not allow the programmers proper time to do full testing before rolling it out?
Face it, there’s no way for managers to weasel out of the blame for this, b/c the buck has to stop somewhere.:-) We simply hold leaders to a higher standard than mere workers, especially if they pay themselves more every hour than a programmer makes in a month (I have not looked into what the pay gap is specifically for Capcom though, this is just programming in general).
It is a sad fact that for-profit universities and colleges sometimes hand out degrees like candy, making them not worth the paper they are printed on. In essence they trade on their past reputations, hoping that nobody will notice. Well, people noticed. Students, after they start interviewing, often BEG their professors to actually teach them what they need to know. But they cannot, b/c, and I cannot state this hard enough, the purpose of a for-profit education system is not to teach, but to… can you guess what I am about to say… say it with me now… “just make profits”.
Midwest.social is running Lemmy v0.19 though - so why not just block it for yourself rather than have the entire instance defederate? Go to your settings, click at the top where it says Blocks, scroll all the way down and now there’s a new box (that was not there a month ago) where you can block an entire instance.
I do not know the limitations of that approach, but since I did not see mention of this in your post I thought I would make certain that you knew about this fairly recent change that occured during the holiday season, as a possibility worth looking into at least.
Ofc meme conmmmunities would like to have their fun, and political ones to have more serious discussions. The trick perhaps is to read the room, which on a platform with such a wide variety of options as Lemmy (or Reddit) is next to impossible. Hence why this is so far an unsolved problem, though it is perhaps not unsolvable with sufficient effort put into further developing the technology of Lemmy (though other matters seem to have been more pressing for the developers to focus on). I do hope it is solved one day.
I will add that Lemmy is nowhere near as bad, to the same degree I mean, as Reddit is now. Go take a look - it has gotten much worse over there. I would rather shut off social media altogether than ever go back there in the general subs. Edit: which isn’t necessarily such a bad idea.
