Xi (Foolishly) Plans Communist Answers For China’s Property Crisis. [Forbes] (www.forbes.com)

If the leaks and rumors are true, Beijing stands ready to launch a new and radical solution to the economy’s property crisis – a government takeover. What the authorities refer to as “a new model” would replace the old emphasis on ownership with more rentals and use government funds to buy up bankrupt properties so that...

Of course, none of this has anything to do with the slaughter of innocents, just that Israel is creating too much “uncertainty.”

So I get if they think the bids they’re getting from the streaming services are too low to justify spending on the marketing, or if it’s unfinished and at this point it’s not worth completing. But if they’ve got a full movie in the can, why not just upload it to YouTube and be like “free movie y’all.” The PR off that move would at least be something.

Paid $155,000 for my [Tesla] S Plaid a year ago and now they are selling for $86,000. What can I do? (www.reddit.com)

I feel horrible. Like I have been scammed or something. What can I do if anything? I still owe $130,000 on the car and can’t even sell it because I would then owe around $60,000 to pay off the loan compared to what I can sell it for....

The amazingly stupid part to me isn’t so much that he bought a luxury car and then the price came down, it’s that it looks like he bought it with the expectation that the value was going to go up. Rule number one of buying a new car, 30-50% of the sale value disappears the moment you drive off the lot. That he thought Elon hype magic was going to offset that is an extra level of sad.

At least the Jobs one seems to be dissipating, or maybe it’s just easier for people to see the warts when it’s generic CEO running the company and not The Visionary.

It’s sort of analogous to the whole “The televised debates won JFK the election” thing. It helped JFK but him and his team didn’t fully understand it because it was too new. It would take later politicians to fully exploit it. Likewise, Jobs had the public persona for the mystery cult but he didn’t really develop it or get the potential in the Web 2.0 era, whereas Musk and Trump did and played it up for maximum effect.

This makes no goddamn sense. France is partially capitalist? I could see that being a “social democracy isn’t real capitalism” angle but then why the hell are the Nordic countries full capitalism? Botswana is full capitalism but South Africa is only partial, guessing that’s a “we have to recognize it’s highly developed for Africa but we don’t like Mandela so it gets a ding.”

Dude clearly has delusions of grandeur, but the fuel being fed into that is far right ideology. In a sense, he just acted on what right wing rhetoric says is the ideal.

I don’t mind that AOC isn’t all “viva la revolution!” all the time, but this pusillanimous inability criticize her own party’s leadership when it’s warranted is contemptible. You’ve got the most prominent profile of any Congress critter that isn’t in leadership, your electoral base isn’t dependent on their kind graces, they’re not going to give you shit anyway, stop playing nice with them. Oh no, Nancy Pelosi said something mean to you? Then tell her to fuck off!

Firing squad is messy, fentanyl I’m guessing being a controlled substance/opioid makes it a no go. I remember reading a few years back that the EU was ceasing the export of the chemical traditionally used in lethal injections in the U.S. so my guess is they’re experimenting with a replacement they can source easily.

Americans: Are you going to vote third party or refuse to vote at all?

I’ve been debating to myself whether or not voting for a third party candidate (Either PSL’s de la Cruz or Green’s West, regardless of my criticisms for both) would be the most “effective” use of my time in election season this year. The argument for “not” is that maybe voting at all is bad because it legitimizes...

PKMKII,
@PKMKII@hexbear.net avatar

Either West or the PSL candidate depending on who’s on the ballot. I never thought the “voting at all only legitimizes the system” argument was valid because it makes the false assumption that TPTB are dependent on voter turnout to legitimize the system. The turnout could be twenty percent, they’d still push a “shining beacon of democracy” message and the consent will be manufactured.

Now I know there’s zero chance a third party candidate will win, but I’ve noticed that non-voters don’t even get discussed in the narrative. They may demonize third party voters, but at least they talk about them.

I think the best outcome would be some negotiated settlement where the separatist territories get some sort of semi-autonomous status, halfway between being Ukraine and being Russia, but more importantly that it’s China that brokers the negotiations. Release valve gets put on the pressure cooker, but Zelensky essentially abandoning the U.S./West as the path out of this in favor of someone that can talk to Russia instead of talk down to Russia. Absolute humiliation for the DC blob.

At least in my circles, the main talking point is the fact that this war goes back literally to the dawn of human civilization in this area.

Would really like to hear what this person thinks the “Palestinian” side and “Israeli” side was 10,000 years ago in the Levantine.

‘Complexity’ is an illusion.

That is the ultimate “dumb guy’s idea of a smart idea”.
