Pacers31Colts18,

@ThatOneKirbyMain2568 I personally preferred the original 3 stripe design. This one is okay, but not as good as the original.

Why????

My bike camera is mounted almost 3' off the ground. There is zero reason for a vehicle this size to exist, much less to roam neighborhood streets while kids are out walking & biking to school.

How else are you to transport 6 ft boards from a hardware store?

The Mastodon instance I use for my music project had shut down. Again. Second time this year I’ve had to migrate, but I’m not doing it again, not unless migrating will bring all my posts and comments along with me and I can keep the same URL.

I feel this is a big problem with the Mastodon architecture, no one running a server has any actual incentive to keep the server running. So we are all at the mercy of just wishing and hoping our admin doesn’t get bored or run out of money. I’m sure the community answer is “run your own instance” but that’s not feasible for a hobby project that doesn’t make any money. Corporate-owned social media has a financial incentive to keep the servers online, so they do.

For a personal “social” account it’s fine, I’m just here to chat and I don’t care about anything I post here. For a large brand, they can afford their own server. But for any hobbyist or small business that relies on a stable way for people to find their account and wants to have a nice long history of content waiting when they get there, Mastodon ain’t it 🫤 which is really unfortunate because there are a lot of talented and creative people here who would be similarly crushed to see all of their hard work deleted at someone else’s whim. But that problem is not going away until we can migrate EVERYTHING.

So unfortunately my band is going back to… sigh… Facebook.

Pacers31Colts18,

@thefreehunter agreed. Kinda the same issue I see on Lemmy. I think we're in such the early stages though. Eventually we'll end up in a somewhat centralized version when corporations start their own instances.
