As climate change results in more bushfires and we continue to clear-fell old habitat trees, the fate of the laughing kookaburra – our icon of the ages – could be sealed. That once-ubiquitous call will be heard no more.
Ward said the impact of bleaching had been extensive across 16 sites that she visited in the reef’s southern section, affecting coral species that had usually been resistant to bleaching. Some coral had started to die, a process that usually takes weeks or months after bleaching occurs....
This graph really just makes me think we are fucked, like really fucked, easily in the span of a human life time, if not a few years.
How will this not have crazy knock on effects?
Yet I still go to work and plan for the future and just live my life in some sort of daze. Still tell myself I’ll find a wife and have kids one day.
I wonder if I just allow myself to live the ignorance is bliss life, the embodiment of the “this is fine” meme, like so many on this world. Easier just to go with the human flow as we slowly all jump off the cliff like a herd of buffalo.

A culture of glorifying tans, mixed with needing a reason to show off your southern cross tattoo, beautiful weather and free public BBQs at parks and beaches.
Three screens billed as “business expense” actually used as a sim racing rig.
But you will end up filling any screen space you have. When coding I very quickly fill out the space, to see files and folders I am intereacting with, communication apps, websites, IDE, ticket screen. Some days I wish I had 4.
Like i use an older version of android and every new app on fdroid works for me and keeping the main repo full of abandonware isn’t a good idea and will hold fdroid back on being a good app store . Taking your keyboard example. Nearly all the popular keyboards haven’t been updated in a long time. They work (more or less) and so don’t need updates.
Under your system they would get achieved and new users wouldn’t see them.
Por que no los dos? Why the urge to dilute it to a black or white issue? Why can’t it be the people and the current society? I am a gaming addict, I know it is up to me.to change that and not fall in the hole. Could there also be a society change, of course, but it is not 100% my problem or 100% societies problem.
I can fight my own phyche and make small gains, then spend that spare time to improve my community.
Society is fucked, but we can all try and make it a bit better

Worth saying I am sort of playing devils advocate here.
Change it to what? It is easy to back seat yell “Capitalism Bad” but change to what? Every other isim has it’s own laundry list of issues. Which one is least corruptible by sosciopaths?
You don’t think sosciopaths are going to take more than there fair share in socialism, or skew the system over time? They aren’t going to find their may to the top in every single form of government to change the rules to their desires?
Quite a few will argue that we aren’t even in capatalisim any more, it has been corrupted and changed, massaged by “government” to the point of failure, the Austrian school of economics.
So it is easy to stand on the roof top and say “Capitalism is the problem” but it seems like a much deeper rot to me
I think GPT5 will be eye opening. If it is another big leap ahead then we are not in this local maxima, if it is a minor improvement then we may be in a local maxima.
Likely then the focus will shift to reducing hardward requirements for inforarance(?) Allowing bigger models to run better on smaller hardware

Imagine being able to take your data model of someone and generate short form video just for them. Imagine the retention and ad revenue. Could even make AI generated ads purely targeted at a person. The possibilities are endless for the souless corporation
Infinite growth on a world with finite resources, what could go wrong?
If a company doesn’t make their projected 7% gains every year it is front page news and it is deemed a failing business. “ohh no we only made 120 million dollars this year, how will we feed the shareholders kids”
