New Motherboard with loose CMOS Battery - Should I worry/return?

I’m currently waiting for all the components for my PC upgrade to arrive. Got the motherboard today and immediately upon opening, I noticed that the CMOS battery was not in its slot but just kind of next to it loose on top of the board. The slot seems fine, it seems to fit securely in there. No scratches on the board either....

Games that support the Deck's multitouch

The Steam Deck’s multitouch screen might be its most underutilised feature. Until recently, I wasn’t even sure whether devs could use it for anything more than simple mouse emulation. But I’ve just started playing “Sky: Children of the Light” on my Deck (which is generally a great experience on Deck, especially on the...

PonyOfWar,

Sources state Glance will not capture data, but will instead leverage a user’s “patterns” to offer recommendations.

Those “patterns” are literally data. What a nonsensical sentence.

PonyOfWar,

The wizard was called “Le Sorcier”. Lovecraft wrote that story when he was 17, so I think we can cut him some slack that it wasn’t a masterpiece.

PonyOfWar,

The word “AI” has been used for way longer than the current LLM trend, even for fairly trivial things like enemy AI in video games. How would you even define a computer “thinking on its own”?

PonyOfWar,

Even if you believe Israel to be completely justified in everything they do, there should never be a blanket ban on criticizing the methods of a country at war.

PonyOfWar,

PonyOfWar,

Because religion provides comfort, community and a meaning to people’s existence that goes beyond “we were born of chance on an insignificant rock somewhere in the universe”.

(I’m not religious BTW)

Federation issues with feddit.de?

I’ve noticed that Pawb no longer seems to receive any new posts from any feddit.de communities. For example, if I view the “DACH” community through Pawb, the latest post is from 7 days ago, while on feddit itself, there were many posts in the last 7 days. Both instances still seem to be federated and aren’t on each...

PonyOfWar,

dominates the federation

Well there you have it.

PonyOfWar,

France certainly has a social problem, with immigrant-descended populations often living precariously in crime-ridden banlieues, relatively isolated from the “indigenous” French people. These are great conditions to breed extremism.

But I’m not sure you could go so far as to say that there’s really a terrorism problem. Of course any terrorist attack will be a huge thing in the news, but looking at the bigger picture, it still happens rather rarely and France is overall a pretty safe country.

How will we ever get away from plastics when they are ubiquitous for safety

Plastic seals food, sterile medical implements, medicine, beverages, etc… it’s seems like plastic is used as a way to seal things safely. Post pandemic rising, I see even more. My work used to be have plastic utensils in the cafeteria, for example, an already wasteful thing. Now, post-2020, every fork, knife, and spoon is...

PonyOfWar,

We don’t need to ban every single bit of plastic. It’s fine to keep it where it’s absolutely necessary. Some of the examples you provided definitely aren’t necessary though, like individually wrapped cutlery (wtf) or beverages (can use glass).

PonyOfWar,

Sea of Thieves has microtransactions.

No Man’s Sky was wildly successful at launch, making the devs a ton of money. I guess they felt bad about not delivering on their promises, so they used that money to fund further development.

PonyOfWar,

It’s such a complicated situation that I’d be hesistant to endorse anything or anyone in this war. Nothing excuses the horrible terrorist attacks, but they’re sort of the logical consequence of people living inside the living hell that Israel turned the Gaza strip into. Also letting everyone there, including innocent people, starve by blockading the area as well as calling them “human animals” is not exactly something I can get behind.

PonyOfWar,

The whole point of Cyberpunk’s setting is that it’s a capitalist hellscape. The corpos don’t care about the environment or setting up a nice public transport network. And of course there is also the gameplay perspective, riding a train in a videogame gets very boring very quickly.

Should i take my coworker up on his job offer?

My coworker recently told me he moonlights doing an online job while working our normal job. I asked him what he does and he said that it’s hard to explain but there’s a powerpoint that explains when i get hired. He said it’s all legal and we get paid $10 an hour and pay goes out every week. He showed me he’s made an...

PonyOfWar,

Sounds like MLM bullshit at best, or something illegal like being a money mule at worst.

PonyOfWar,

The point he makes is correct of course, but the way he does the comparison is not very honest. If he wants to compare to the maximum capacity of a tube train, he’d also have to take the maximum capacity of a car, not the average passengers.
