PonyOfWar,

Even if you believe Israel to be completely justified in everything they do, there should never be a blanket ban on criticizing the methods of a country at war.

PonyOfWar,

Sure, it was, at least according to the article. Emphasis mine:

which explicitly forbids any speech that “questions Israel’s right to exist” or criticizes the country’s occupation of Palestinian land.

PonyOfWar,

Cold war era East Berlin wasn’t particularly bad when it came to public services to be fair.

PonyOfWar,

The workers literally get paid bonuses for each phone that gets made. The phone’s parts all get certified for sustainability. They need to find manufacturers willing to fulfill their requirements, for which they will obviously charge more.

I’m not saying that they’re for everyone or should be free from criticism. I personally decided against buying one due to the size, performance and camera. But if you’re complaining about a sustainable product costing more than a regular one, you’re missing the point and were never in the target audience in the first place.

PonyOfWar,

The wizard was called “Le Sorcier”. Lovecraft wrote that story when he was 17, so I think we can cut him some slack that it wasn’t a masterpiece.

PonyOfWar,

HP Lovecraft - great writer, horrible racist

Similarly, Orson Scott Card - Ender’s game and its sequel are great, but he’s a raging homophobe.

Games that support the Deck's multitouch

The Steam Deck’s multitouch screen might be its most underutilised feature. Until recently, I wasn’t even sure whether devs could use it for anything more than simple mouse emulation. But I’ve just started playing “Sky: Children of the Light” on my Deck (which is generally a great experience on Deck, especially on the...

New Motherboard with loose CMOS Battery - Should I worry/return?

I’m currently waiting for all the components for my PC upgrade to arrive. Got the motherboard today and immediately upon opening, I noticed that the CMOS battery was not in its slot but just kind of next to it loose on top of the board. The slot seems fine, it seems to fit securely in there. No scratches on the board either....

PonyOfWar,

Thank you, that’s reassuring to hear that you’ve had that happen before, so I guess it’s not too rare. I’ll keep it I think.

PonyOfWar,

Thank you, will do (once all the other components arrive)

PonyOfWar,

PonyOfWar,

users can reach speeds up to 20-plus MPH fairly easily (that’s 9,743 Kilometers per hour for my non-US readers).

I know you guys in the US have faster e-bikes, but almost 8 times the speed of sound seems a little bit excessive.

Is it theoretically possible for Windows 11 to delete pirated content on your PC?

I heard Windows 11 has been updated to take screenshots of your computer. Is it theoretically possible for them to delete content from your PC or external hard drives if they can determine that you have pirated content on them? Can they theoretically report you for it? I know it’s unlikely but is it still possible? I’m...

PonyOfWar, (edited )

Anything is theoretically possible on a closed source operating system. But it’s not likely. First of all, this “feature” is only compatible with “Copilot+” PCs, so your system probably won’t even get it. It also would run foul of privacy laws in in many places. Especially if they did that while claiming the screenshots only stay local. That’d be a huge lawsuit waiting to happen.

PonyOfWar,

There was some issue with the picture database causing the frontend to break. The admin has been absent since then, apparently prioritizing some personal issues. There is an effort to create a replacement for the instance, in cooperation with a group called the fediverse foundation. It’s currently unclear if the admin will give over the instance or whether an entirely new one will have to be created.

PonyOfWar,

It’s not new, nor is it AI. Predictive text suggestions have been in Android for ages now.

PonyOfWar,

B. ‘info at physiotherapieschmidt punkt de’...

PonyOfWar,

PonyOfWar,

Some of the first swine flu cases in humans in the US were in Michigan, so Biden being “sent to Detroit” makes sense. Way more than it would for Covid.

PonyOfWar,

No, it was anti-authoritarian, as it removed the authority slave holders had over their slaves.

Is it immoral, unethical, or illegal to use movie prop money for collection plates, tip jars, beggars, and strip clubs?

If I’m paying for my goods and services with actual money, but using prop money for tips, is that bad? In my understanding, tips are given of one’s own free will and would be considered a gift to the recipient, the same as if I gave flowers or cookies as a tip. I’ve also seen fake money passed off by religious people that...

PonyOfWar,

It seems, at the very least, deceitful. If you don’t want to give money, just don’t and don’t pretend otherwise.
