I installed the official Reddit app and went on it to see what the old place was looking like now. My inbox was filled with spam. The “home feed” shows subs I never subscribed to. There are so many ads. Between the ads and the the extra subs in the feed, it’s hard to just scroll. I also noted a lot of spam in some of the...
would barely make a dent in reddit’s traffic if every old.reddit user
Personally, I don’t really care if Reddit fails, I just want Lemmy to thrive. Users of old.reddit seem likely to be high-contribution people, so it’d be great if they came here.
small niche communities
Yeah, I see your point. On the other hand, places like Facebook also have niche communities but people still set up on Reddit. The question is not “does it exist on Facebook?” but “is Reddit better?” Now we’re in the process of working out the bugs so we can say “but Lemmy is best.”
Cross-posting from gothindustrial (where it got zero upvotes) because I can’t believe I’m the only person in the fediverse who likes this, and you folks have upvoted the Sisters of Mercy.
Oh I don’t know, I think they have several great songs… Thunder Kiss, Black Sunshine, Real Solution 9, I Am Hell, … uh … I’m sure there are a couple more.
it looks good so i thought i’d give it a shot, i’ve heard mixed things about it (some don’t like watching it, others prefer other martial arts like jiu jitsu)
I checked out a couple tkd dojangs. One seemed very focused on getting leg flexibility, another was very kid-focused, the third had a couple former Olympic athletes. They all practiced a mix of basics, forms, and sparring. It’s generally not focused on getting you into an MMA match, but you’ll definitely learn to kick and punch.
Depends what you’re into and where you’re coming from.
if you’re into history, there’s the site of the Boston Massacre, with the Old State House adjacent; also Faneuil Hall, and the Boston Commons. (Faneuil Hall had a small museum upstairs and an open-air mall adjacent with lots of food places btw) if you like cemeteries, there are colonial-era examples by the Commons and in the North End, there are several historical churches downtown as well. etc.
if you’re into colleges, the Harvard and MIT campuses have some nice buildings, you can usually wander around there during the day.
see if the theater district is showing anything while you’re there. it’s not Broadway, but it’s not bad either.
the Boston area has a wide variety of restaurants from different countries.
think about your hobbies or crafts. then search for a store or club or organization related to that in Boston, there’s probably something related. for example there were several small places that built/repaired antique musical instruments, several gaming shops, several shops for stamps and collectibles etc.
Finally, Boston has a variety of “tour buses” with various themes that drive around downtown, and some that go in the water, they can be worth checking out.
