I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not, but I’m guessing they all look old bc we’re used to seeing those styles on older women, namely women of that generation as they aged.
Plus, the women in that line are literally herding cats. That’ll age anyone.
[Grandpa Simpsons voice] Back in my day, we used to say “pr0n” instead of “porn” to avoid keyword spotters, and saying it that way just got to be a habit. Nowadays e.g. twitch comments auto-mods have block lists. I think kids just do the same thing.
What’s funny is when you’re watching something like an AI summary of a movie on youtube, it’ll use euphemisms like “self-delete” instead of “suicide” and “naughty place” instead of “brothel” to avoid the algorithm penalties you mention.
Back when I deleted all my comments, I was told I could claim to be in Europe and make a request citing the European law that Reddit has to follow. I think Reddit had a page where you could make the request, but of course it was hard to find.
Once upon a time there was a Little Engine that Could, that said “I think I can, I think I can!” Now it just says “It is what it is, it is what it is…”
Yes, that’s a fair assessment. It’s not an enjoyable book and to some extent isn’t meant to be – the cover of the version I read said something about an “ambiguous utopia,” the story structure is pretty far from a Campbellian Hero’s Journey, and the main character is not relatable. The book is more memorable than enjoyable.
I want to see if I can get a spark of the “old internet” back by making a starting page for myself with all kinds of cool websites. But not sure where to start because Google obviously will not work for this....
18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 And they replied back saying, Very well O Lord but there are six fish who have grievously insulted us.
I have many conversations with people about Large Language Models like ChatGPT and Copilot. The idea that “it makes convincing sentences, but it doesn’t know what it’s talking about” is a difficult concept to convey or wrap your head around. Because the sentences are so convincing....
This is what I was going to point to. When I was in grad school, it was often referred to as the Symbol Gounding Problem. Basically it’s a interdisciplinary research problem involving pragmatics, embodied cognition, and a bunch of others. The LLM people are now crashing into this research problem, and it’s interesting to see how they react.
I do the same when I go on vacation. Take an old phone, no cell plan, just use the wireless at the hotel and take the phone as a map and camera. No cell plan means work can’t call me, map still works bc of GPS and bc the data is manually downloaded (under profile menu.)
The funny/tragic thing is there are several decades worth of AI/NLP research that they could call on, but they seem intent on kludging and reinventing things instead.
