It looks like the may be back this evening, although not as "big" as the one on Friday.

The CME from sunspot AR3664 has kicked up a pretty active , stronger & earlier than predicted. It is currently rated as a G4 (out of 5) geomagnetic storm.

A CME has arrived: there should be some active displays this evening in North America.

A gust of solar wind has sparked up some activity, currently best seen in North-Central Asia. We'll see how this develops during the day.

RonBeavis,

The intense activity is now over northern Scandinavia, stretching as far west as Iceland.

A few days of a radiation storm & an unexpected CME means there may be some to see in North American this evening.

Frosty is the order of the day across Turtle Island (except Florida).

Unfortunately, Komaldeep Makkar's story is the norm rather than the exception: Canadian professional associations do everything they can to make life hard for newcomers in order to protect their members' privileges: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/first-person-degree-was-worthless-in-canada-1.6772923

@gvwilson The decision to make Canadian professionals organize provincially rather than federally was a mistake that has had consequences that will persist until it is corrected.

My wife got some bad health news last Tuesday, and she's now going through the CancerCare MB intake process.

Our healthcare capabilities in Manitoba are awful. 3 weeks for a CT scan, and 6 weeks for an "urgent" appt with a gynecologist. Multiple prov govts have taken the easy way out by promising low taxes and letting healthcare (and almost everything else) crater.

We need to demand that politicians give us the straight goods, not what we necessarily want to hear.

@mike @Diggler67 I agree 100%. Many of the people you will run across play the role of insurance adjuster: their primary goal is to get you to accept lower cost options.

@pluralistic Winnipeg has suffered from a similar gerrymandering nightmare from a failed municipal unification process combined with an automobile apocalypse. This image from the same vantage point (looking north up Main Street from Portage Avenue) shows a street built for people & transit taken over by cars

I know some vendors of mass spectrometers who could learn a lesson or 2 from ONT. Open source software running on all platforms, wow...

RonBeavis,
@RonBeavis@mastodon.social avatar

@Elendol If you will forgive the cross-domain phrasing, "it is not in their DNA". MS vendors have dreamed of walled gardens for so long that everything else is dismissed out-of-hand as impractical idealism, even though their own customers spend a lot of time trying to knock holes in the fences they are sold.

@slashdot I find the audio mix used by streamers to often result in muddy sounding dialogue.
