I think what I don't like about the term "enshittification" is that it obscures who is responsible for making things worse.
It's not enshittification, it's the profit motive, and the diverging interests users of products and owners of products.
I'm sure Cory Doctorow (who I believe coined the term) knows all this, and probably said as much in his writing on the topic. But if we just use this shorthand to point to the problem, it makes the problem seem handed down from on high, we are in danger of letting the perpetrators off the hook. It didn't just happen: people made choices that made your life worse because it would make them richer. Fuck those guys.
