Sheldybear,

Jew here, and travelled through SE Asia. Israelis have always had a terrible reputation in parts of India and Thailand because after completing military service of 2-3 years, these kids get a lump sum before heading off to careers or university. They spend that money on booze and drugs and get off their faces before heading home to start their lives properly, and this is true of the Israeli Arab kids who serve too, as they are also no longer under the watchful eye of their parents or the military.

It’s not uncommon for youth hostels in Thailand not to allow Israelis in groups to stay there, with signage saying so. Always “Israelis”, never “jews”. I saw a lot of this backpacking maybe 8 years ago.

Sheldybear,

Do you remember during the 2008 campaign when there was criticism over Obama’s pastor being too outspoken in his church? In back to back segments fox would reflect on Obama’s dangerous version of Christianity while also saying he was a Muslim…

Sheldybear,

This may be apocryphal, but gene had originally planned for the bridge and subsequent space battles to reflect those of submarines - playing out entirely within closed rooms and getting feedback from sensors. This didn’t sit well with producers, who wanted windows and for kirk to look out directly at an enemy, hence the viewscreen and placement on top of the saucer section.

Sheldybear,

As a dual citizen, you are required to show your passport if citizenship for the receiving country - I have dual citizenship and it feels weird to show one passport to get on a plane and another to get off, but it’s what a customs officer will ask of you when you arrive.

Since OP was never an American resident or paid taxes, he or she shouldn’t need to file taxes or be flagged on a system for anything anyway.

Sheldybear,

“Weapons manufacturer suggests Europe buy a whole lot more weapons”

Sheldybear,

I work in a museum adapting internationally touring exhibitions to align with their host communities. It’s a great career - there’s travel, I get to see behind the scenes of museum collections, and I get to study other cultures as a job. I do get paid to match the fact that I work for a charity.

My background is in the museum sector, which you can get into either through a PhD in study of a relevant field to the specific museum, or through a graduate program in museum/ conservation studies (which is what I did).

So far as I can tell, there are only a handful of people that do this job globally, which I suppose makes it lesser known!

Sheldybear,

A hammer designed to smash glass - it’s a ‘safety hammer’ because they are kept in cars to smash windows in emergencies where people are stuck.

Sheldybear,

Except that these attacks weren’t against the settlers (who are taking land in the west bank), it’s targeting the civilians in South Israel who have lived there for ages. I think the world was expecting to see this violence in the west bank, not gaza.

Sheldybear,

Sale on at M&S, going to look at buying a cheap casual suit.

Dinner with friends, get to tell them about how we’re expecting our first kid.

Love the drizzle, will travel exclusively on foot
