Played the NES version of River City Ransom for the first time ever last night, a wee bit of online co-op on the Switch with my buddy that I used to play games with bitd

I absolutely bloody loved it, fantastic wee game, especially compared to so many appalling 8-bit beat 'em ups. I want to play all the versions of this game/series now.

Yo Mastodon. Just a quickie to say I'm still brroken. Mostly staying away from my computer desks, but I am dealing with orders as and when I can. For the most part, nothing is partially late. If things get unmanageable, I'll put my sites into holiday mode while I recover.

Sloanysoft,

@futurewas8bit Look after yourself.

Apparently folk are actually going to the bother of pirating homebrew games and using all sorts of mental gymnastics to justify it.

Sloanysoft,

@reidrac

Haha indeed all my games are free, but they still end up on some KrakedGamezz websites that are more virus laden than that germ farm monkey from outbreak. If folk prefer to take their chance with them, good luck to them I guess.

Watching TinyTim78 play Digital Duck's brand new PC game Manic Miner Redux on Twitch right now.

So impressed with this game. It incorporates levels from all the various versions of Manic Miner but does them in a Spectrum style.

Sloanysoft,

I love how he's got 80 levels from different versions of Manic Miner and removed the "nightmare fuel" visuals & brought it back to style aesthetics.

Spectrum style redux. Nice!

Sloanysoft,

Oh, best post a link to the game!!

Sloanysoft,

@Bobbins I enjoyed watching it in action. So many nice touches and Easter Eggs, have just grabbed a copy, hopefully it'll run ok on my ancient laptop.

Everyone contributing to Spectrum Computing is doing such a great job. It's the resource WoS should have become instead of whatever the hell it is now.

Sloanysoft,

@Bobbins 100% They are doing the Lord's work.

There's August in!

Ironically "Time" does not seem to be "Standing Still"!

Sloanysoft,

@peter That's a BEAUTIFUL joystick. They don't make them like that anymore!!

Sloanysoft,

@peter Absolutely love the "wild west" era of computing. Some incredible design before the industry standard shapes of peripherals came in.

An absolute delight to see Rage Against the Retro playing Janky Joe tonight. I'll never get used to the thrill of seeing folk play our game on Stream.

Janky Joe level: pipe annoyed
Janky Joe level: Game and Watch out
Janky Joe level: Trouble Bobble

Oooooh rage_against_the_retro are streaming some goodness tonight on Twitch.

Always love to see Speccy Twitch streams. 😍

Continuing to test through the big pile of random tapes, it's a beautiful mix of dreadful games, games that won't load, quirky stuff & absolute gems.

In amongst it all there's a game called "The Flying Formula" never heard of it before but it came free with ZX Computing Monthly & I absolutely love it. There's so many enemies on screen at once & no slowdown & plays great. It's almost like a bullet hell game, but more fun. Lovely stuff.

Sloanysoft,

@Kebablog Hehe every time I try to downsize, I find another bargain on the Sinclair for Sale site. I just love Speccy tapes!

Sloanysoft,

@noisetank Absolutely!! 100% I love Speccy tapes so much, even though I can load any game instantly from the Divide, there's something magical about loading from tape, especially if it takes you a couple of goes before it loads!! The game is such a reward at the end of it. 😂

You can still get the odd bargains on the Sinclair for Sale Facebook page, but I swear some folk must be on it all day hitting refresh!!

Not of my own playlists but I just stumbled across this Spotify playlist with 7 hours of just great music that I love.

I've just been doing a couple of hours of household chores, haven't had to skip a single song & the time just flew by!

If you're after a playlist with banger after banger you might like to give it a try...

Sloanysoft,

@AndyRayner hehe that's exactly what I was thinking! Some fantastic tunes in there. 👍

One of the most beloved games on the , 's specialty was cooperative multiplayer. Something not all that often found in games of the time. Or even today, for that matter. Which is too bad, isn't it? Why always this focus on competition?

Sloanysoft,

@retrosteveuk @mr_creosote

Absolutely spot on, my favourite game of all time is Bubble Bobble. Easy to learn, hard to master & even though there's an element of competition for high score, it's really all about working together to clear those screens.

Sloanysoft,

@mr_creosote @retrosteveuk YES!!!

Very strongly agree. Playing Streets of Rage with a pal in your front room epic, playing some generic FPS with anonymous internet kids who have just learned how to swear, not so much.

So it turns out that I'm now a year older than Mick Jagger was in the Mixed Emotions video. Bloody hell.
