Looking at the issue of the loading screen rip-off, I just noticed my first ever 8-bit game was released in October 2014 (for the #ZxSpectrum 48k), so this October it will be 10 years since I started this... hobby.
It wasn't a great game, barely functional because there were so many things I didn't know, both at hardware level and the most essential #gamedev stuff 😂, but eventually... I got better at it!
40 years later, Kontrabant 2 for ZX Spectrum is rebroadcast on FM in Slovenia
Software is almost impossibly easy to download, distribute, and access compared to 40 years ago. Everything is bigger, faster, and more flexible, but there’s a certain charm to the ways of diskettes and cassettes that is hard to recapture. That does ...continues
Ieri sera, una #radio slovena ha trasmesso in diretta un gioco per #zxspectrum vecchio di quarant'anni. In modo che chiunque fosse all'ascolto lo potesse registrare su cassetta e rigiocarlo con calma.
Would you like to hear what the radio transmission of the game sounds like? 📻 Here's a recording for those who missed it. 🎙️ PS. You can also record the game from this video. 📹
Super interesting piece from @sjvn for #ZDNet about the 60th anniversary of the #BASIC programming language - and how it paved the way for other developments at Apple and Microsoft.
40 years later, a game for the ZX Spectrum will be once again broadcast over FM radio! 📻 Anyone who still has a working Spectrum ZX will then be able to test the game. 🎮 Those who do not have one can do so at the museum or online. 💻
This week's game is P.O.D.: Proof of Destruction, a hectic single screen shoot 'em up for Commodore computers (and the ZX Spectrum) with a bit of Jeff Minter energy. Simple as it may be, it's got ideas, and those ideas give it a distinct feel:
When I decided to try to build up some development momentum by restarting the Ray Tracing Challenge but with Dart/Flutter it was a toss up between that idea and deep diving into some retro coding on an Apple II. I briefly thought, "Why not do both?" Har har har. Well, it turns out someone did just that. A ray tracer in BASIC on a ZX Spectrum. #RetroComputing#RetroGaming#programming#ZXSpectrum#BASICgabrielgambetta.com/zx-raytrac…
Today's #retrogaming on the #ZXSpectrum#GalacticAbductors, save those little people on the side of the screen before the nasty winged baddies get them (or you). You can shoot upwards and sideways, which is useful as they drop aliens on you as well. Good, fast fun!
