It’s all about documentation. If something goes tits up in Linux it’s rare that it takes me more than 15 or 20 mins to find a fix. Windows, if something happens, it could be hours to find an answer, longer if the first bits I find don’t work anymore. I’ve had a few occasions where I just straight up reinstalled windows because I couldn’t find a solution to an OS breaking situation. The only times I’ve reinstalled a Linux distro is when I’m hopping to a new one, decide I don’t really like it and go back to the last one I had installed.

Sounds like it’s time to buy a good 6tb hdd for backups. Don’t be like me and put it off for years and suffer multiple drive failures and lose over a decade of hoarded data!

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! LINE GO UP!

In all seriousness, welcome.

Well, being top dog doesn’t really lead to innovation usually. When you already have such a massive market share why spend to pull in new customers? Easier to just make things slightly shittier over time and hope no one notices.

Yeah, me too buddy…me too…

Idfk, but it’s an issue…

The depths of my jealousy, knows no bounds. On 3 separate occasions in the last 8 years I’ve lost decades of data. I was able to recover most of the data at every failure, but cumulatively…almost enough to make me cry…

I’m in Scotland, mullets and bowl cuts are fucking IN right now…it’s mad. Some things should just be dead and buried…

I’m glad it works for you…but it gives me anxiety…

I dual boot win10 and Garuda Arch(I use Arch BTW) and it’s pretty painless. Garuda is a gaming centric distro, it plays almost every game I throw at it with no fuss. The only reason I still use windows at all is because my music production programs refuse to run on Linux, regardless of what settings I use in wine or Proton.

Probably, though does that actually matter?

The SteamDeck is showing people that Linux can in fact game. And while we’re always saying “ThE yEaR oF lInUx!” This is actually a huge step in the right direction.

If Proton keeps getting better, it won’t matter. I mean it matters, because this is clearly where governments should step in and bust up the monopolies, but they obviously aren’t going to.

I think you’re wrong. It’s showing that Linux has the capability to actually run these games. Some/most people won’t be able to equate the Linux on their handheld with Linux on a desktop, but those who do are welcome to the fold.

The Deck is basically a laptop in a handheld form factor, so no, it’s not just showing that Linux can game as a handheld.

Well, we can agree to disagree.
I have 2 friends who decided to switch their daily driver PCs to Linux after getting a steamdeck, that’s 2 out of 5. Not a single one of those 5 has put windows on their deck. shrugs

Should check out the podcast “Sad Oligarch” it’s about the rash of Russian oligarchs and such throwing themselves out of windows, and killing their families then themselves.

Well, you know what they say:

When all you have is a hammer everything looks…like…a…uhhhhhh…Window?

This is what I’m using the last year, really enjoying it. Most stuff does just work, Proton installed by default, haven’t had trouble running nearly anything I’ve wanted to play.

Even worse, it’s a dumbed down Oblivion, which itself is a dumbed down Morrowind.

Xbox's biggest crisis right now isn't games. It's hardware. (Opinion - Jez Corden) (www.windowscentral.com)

"Today, PlayStation revealed that its PS5 has sold 40 million units. Microsoft doesn’t share hardware numbers typically, but court documents, math, and slides from an ID@Xbox in Brazil seem to suggest the Xbox Series X|S line-up is around 20-23 million units sold globally. That essentially puts the PS5 at a 2:1 advantage...

I still rock my Vita, and it makes me unreasonably angry that Sony didn’t seem to take it seriously.
