I had a horrible cooking accident. I'd bought stronger chili powder and I forgot and used it like the mild one and now my mouth is on fire... ๐Ÿฅต

I review The Fascination by Essie Fox. A fairly good book until the very end, after which I questioned everything I'd read, though probably not the way the author intended, and decided I didn't like it at all.

@khleedril @bookstodon Thank you. A bit harsh, but I couldn't help it.

@Sollenbum
Some books deserve late night readings, hence the pace. ๐Ÿ˜€ Others take a longer time.

It did end in a sad place, but also in the middle of action. A lot going on there.

They serve a purpose and I don't mind so much. Makes Mo Ran's change more pronounced. A lot is made of it in the next book. But if he continues with the same in this life, once they reach that point in their relationship, I'll be upset.

@Sollenbum
Chinese fantasy in general sees consent in a way that feels uncomfortable to western readers so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to younger readers at all. I try to keep that in mind when I read, so I don't get too hung up on the less savoury scenes.

@geraineon @Sollenbum Yes, you are right. I answered hastily without considering the word choice.

I review Associate Professor Akira Takatsuki's Conjecture vol. 3 (light novel) by Mikage Sawamura. This series of paranormal cozy mysteries set in contemporary Japan continues to delight and spook.

I added a public service post script to this review: the kindle edition of this links to vol 3 of the manga adaptation on Amazon, so you can't buy the light novel there as an ebook. The glitch concerns many light novel series with manga adaptations there, not just this one. Other retailers are fine.

Guten Morgen, Freunde!

Sky Falls is published! ๐Ÿ˜

Of course, there's a bit of a catch. Yes, it's up on Amazon, Google and Kobo, but the other stores are still taking their sweet old time. (Looking at you, Apple and Tolino.)

Which means that the link below isn't yet as fully functional as it will be in a couple of days. Apologies!

Even so, I want to start the celebrations!

Sky Falcon is flying live! happy dance

From the world's most trivial news dept: So I've had the same broken laundry hamper for like ... twenty years. I inherited it from a roommate after college, and it gradually fell apart but I kept telling myself it was absurd to replace a thing that's just for laundry. Finally, I couldn't even put stuff into it anymore because it kept collapsing. So I bought a brand-new one! And I keep marveling at it. A hamper that looks nice and isn't cracked and stained and torn! It's a whole new era.

@annaleen Husband and I got one as a houswarming gift 20 years ago that I disliked from the start. It's ugly, impractical and keeps breaking, yet we're still using it and I haven't even looked for a replacement. ๐Ÿ˜†

@barnesjo @bookstodon Edelweiss. Most publishers put up their books there, even if they don't offer review copies of them, so I can keep up to date of what's coming in all the genres I follow. Edelweiss communities have some blogs etc. too for news and author interviews, though I don't know how useful/active they are.
