It'd be nice to find a file converter/compressor that outputs various formats using a droplet.

For now I use ImageOptim and Preview.

What do you all use? Does it have a UI for creating the droplets, or something else?

Sveinbjorn,
@Sveinbjorn@typo.social avatar

@Luke imagemagick + Shortcuts? That’s what I’d use if I had the need for it.
As it stands I use a so-so app that comes with Setapp.

I went with a standard SL-1200 model last year (finally)…

…but the SL-1500 now comes with a semi-automatic tone arm lifter, preventing very common needle wear. And a Ortofon Red needle!

A bargain, if you were looking for a .

@Luke @JTDType the M3D is probably the one I’d want the most. Just got some ratty MK2s in states of disrepair. Bought parts ages ago but I can never get around to finishing these things.

Dribbble rebrands. Perhaps losing some personality, becoming more pro?
I'll miss the charm of the old logotype.

@Luke I don’t get it. Feels like crisis of confidence, lateral move. The lettering itself is good, but making it more rigid yet still an informal script… feels like stress, embodied in typography.

Last warning.
If you don’t all give up your tweeting the Earth will be consumed by the darkness of the universe and you will never see your tweets, or the ends of your noses again.

The rest of the world (within range of a stellar object’s shadow) will suffer because of you.

You have fifteen minutes to comply.

Sveinbjorn,

@Luke are we tweeting now? What is tweeting anymore? It's not "posting on x". That's for sure.

People don’t want inventive. They want cool. And easy. And quick. And smart. And creative… but not creative.

So, …boring, really.
That’s what people want.
Informative and helpful but not creative.

Well, not Creative like you’re thinking.

Think like yourself or like your clients. Pay the price.

Font Trials cont.:

XYZ Type has an interesting system.
You pay 20$ per family, get no rights, but you can get it back if/when you buy the family. This'll weed out the least serious/respectful trial-seekers.

Sveinbjorn,
@Sveinbjorn@typo.social avatar

Blaze Type has an even more business-savy low paywall: For 35$ you get their entire collection for "personal use". That includes portfolio and personal projects, up to a defined point.
So it entices you to get familiar with the type, so you're more likely to license them for commercial projects.

Typefoundry.directory has a nice list of foundries and if they offer trial fonts. They also specify web fonts, fontstand, adobe fonts, variable fonts and Edu. discount:

The thing I’ve been waiting for since the iPod debuted:

Sveinbjorn,
@Sveinbjorn@typo.social avatar

@Luke where is that setting? Spotify has had crossfade for years, kinda assumed it was in every app?

Sveinbjorn,
@Sveinbjorn@typo.social avatar

@Luke I think the idea is to save up on in-app clutter. This system allows for very minimalist app interfaces. But if users don’t know of this interface convention, they get hella confused. So like half the apps have in-app settings.
Its weird both ways.

Seriously considering cancelling Amazon Prime as it is up for renewal in a month at $139 plus tax.

We don’t use it ALL the time, but of course it is nice to have for the “free” shipping.

Any other people (or families) out there that have done it?

Sveinbjorn,
@Sveinbjorn@typo.social avatar

@onpaperwings I wonder if the scattered offering of services (streaming video and music and other things) is, in part, to muddy the water for the consumer who's wondering if the whole thing is worth it?

Revisiting Unkle’s debut collaboration album and realizing that obviously DJ Shadow did all of the heavy lifting.

Sveinbjorn,
@Sveinbjorn@typo.social avatar

@Luke I think Lavelle’s main contribution, in drawing the broader strokes of the project, was setting the stage for Gorillaz and similar projects of the era.

Another bit of important influencing may be the introduction of the psychadelic rock sound into the alt/dance culture, although for that movement, Shadow’s predecessor Tim Goldsworthy may have played a larger part, since his DFA Records became a hub for that sound.

Sveinbjorn,
@Sveinbjorn@typo.social avatar

@Luke I feel much the same about it.

Just preparing to interview the typographic legend MATTHEW DAMN CARTER about his time at Linotype and the transition from hot metal to photo and then to digital typography tomorrow…
