Why on earth would we not do both?

I went to school with kids whose parents couldn’t afford to give them lunches. Those kids deserve food. It’s not their fault their parents couldn’t afford it.

The homeowner who fatally shot a 20-year-old University of South Carolina student who tried to enter the wrong home on the street he lived on Saturday morning will not face charges because the incident was deemed “a justifiable homicide” under state law, Columbia police announced Wednesday....

What would you have done?

Not shot someone.

Phone the police, and then shout back asking what he wanted.

Again, my first response is never going to be shooting someone, ever.

In Canada, where I live, that would be a crime.

At no point would I think “I should murder this guy.”

In fact I have had three break-ins, and I managed to not kill anyone each time.

I’m just curious, but how exactly do Canada’s non-progressive parties ‘have’ the plot? I feel like you could just say ‘Canada’s parties’ because I think we can agree the Cons sure as hell don’t either.

B.C. could be facing worst 48 hours of the 2023 wildfire season, officials warn (bc.ctvnews.ca)

Speaking at a news conference, Forestry Minister Bruce Ralston urged the public to monitor wildfire updates closely over the coming days, as recent record-breaking temperatures have worsened the already tinder-dry conditions across much of the province....

If the Cons win the next vote (as they’re currently polling to) it’ll be interesting to see how they approach issues like this, given that they voted against confirming climate change is real.

I have 3 family members in the RCMP, and I fully agree with you.

Canada’s wettest province faces historic drought — and a precarious new future (thenarwhal.ca)

I’d asked how his six-hectare Okanagan farm was faring amidst what’s shaping up to be the worst drought in B.C.’s history, expecting an answer that had something to do with water shortage. But Tumbach told me the drought wasn’t hitting his crop so directly; like most farms in the Okanagan, his irrigation water comes from...

B.C. woman says bus driver threatened to refuse service unless she put on a jacket (bc.ctvnews.ca)

“I started to walk forward and then she’s like, ‘Hold on. You need to put something over that if you’re going to come onto my bus,’” she recalled, adding the driver accused her of not wearing a shirt. “I’m wearing a shirt, it’s called a crop top. I bought it in the shirt section of the store. I know it’s a...

I don’t think that matters, she shows the clothes she was wearing and it’s just standard summer fare. Why are we even talking about what she was wearing though, who cares. Shirt? Check. Shoes? Check. Service? Lacking.

“It’s a bad product. It’s bad because it makes absolutely no sense and nobody should buy it”

Sadly, and not surprisingly:

Lorimer Shenher, a retired VPD detective, said he was skeptical that police were continuing to actively investigate the circumstances around Poorman’s disappearance.

Citing an ongoing investigation is “a convenient catch-all tool they use to hide lack of action on a file,” Shenher said, “citing either investigative necessity or the potential of jeopardizing something they have going on.”

Shenher said if the Poorman family has not heard any updates from VPD recently, “you’re safe to assume this is a tactic to avoid scrutiny of the file and their failings.” [Tyee]
