Just need to solder on the buttons, the buzzer, and the other 4 proximity sensors and the electronics are done.

Managed to test the IR proximity sensing circuitry, the motor drivers, the shift register, the microcontroller and the LED's. Only mistakes found so far are some flipped transistor footprints. Also needed to make some adjustments to the IR input filter, but I was prepared for that.

The next 3 weeks are exams though, so the rest will have to wait.

The front side of the micromouse PCB, there only parts missing are the 4 other proximity sensors, the buttons, and the buzzer. The proximity sensors are on separate smaller PCB's on 90 degrees from the main PCB. (One of the proximity sensor PCB's is populated

I think I managed to solder on the lidar chip without melting the super heat sensitive packaging and without getting any flux into the holes. I do think it is on a slight angle though

Got the pcbs in, we got it with all the jlcpcb basic parts assembled. Now I just need to assemble and test the rest this weekend.

    Do we have a pinout convention for over 4 pin redfit connectors yet? Would be nice yo be able to keep those consistent with other peoples designs.

    Is there any way to make the fan kick in earlier on the ? It is getting uncomfortably warm on my lap, and the fans aren't even spinning.

    Received and assembled my laptop earlier today (sadly I don't have better pics rn). Gotta say, coming from a 14 inch laptop, it does seem kinda big and heavy. It surprisingly fits in my backpack though, that was a suprise, I was expecting needing to buy a bigger one.

    Now I just need to wait for the SSD, which I ordered separately, to arrive (hopefully tomorrow).

    With the envelope removed, the box for the bezel, keyboard, and the expansion modules are visible.

    @gammallama You can export a PCB as step. You can then add this step file as a 3D model to a footprint and place that on your PCB.

    Almost managed to get rid of the entire ratsnest today. Plan is to finish the rest tomorrow, rework some things I am not happy with, and then do like 6 review passes, order the PCB, and hope for the best.

    This sunday is gonna be the deadline for me designing the main micromouse PCB, so I guess that is the only thing I will be doing this weekend.

    Is there some kind of trick to getting transit nav to work in OsmAnd

    TT_392,
    @TT_392@fosstodon.org avatar

    @drewdevault it seems to only sometimes work for me (in amsterdam) not sure why though. Have you tried asking it to route something super simple, like, from one station, to the one right next to it?

    Anybody here know of a way to get the latest volume or the japanese weekly shonen jump digitally while not in japan? I really want to read the new in japanese before I do so in english.

    TT_392,
    @TT_392@fosstodon.org avatar

    It seems I figured it out, you an get an online weekly shonen jump subscription at: shonenjumpplus.com, you just have to navigate the site in japanese. Paying by credit card worked (though I did tell my bank app to allow transactions from japan, idk if that matters).

    chat, what's your recommended way of learning the theory behind PID controllers and autotuning? i need one that doesn't involve a 150 page treatise on z-transforms and poles in complex plane. i just want to write a script that makes heating in this house tolerable

    TT_392,
    @TT_392@fosstodon.org avatar

    @whitequark for a robotics competition I did a while ago, I just ended up taking the difference between the last 2 measurements, the sum of the last few measurements, and the current measurement. Multiplied all 3 with a certain gain. Turned those 3 knobs a bit until it worked. And that worked really well.

    But idk if you are looking for something a bit more precise here.

    TT_392,
    @TT_392@fosstodon.org avatar

    @whitequark ah, right, that would indeed make that approach a bit less convenient

    Boards are here! Got a pile of 'em this time. There's version three of the Electrobanana differential voltage sensor, more Byte boards for displays, and two more modules for a modular input... thing. One is a rotary encoder input, the other is a seven segment display with shift registers. I've already created one module that holds four keyswitches as a keyboard tester. More on that later.

    Two types of boards, front and back. One is called "Macroknob", and the other "Macro7seg".
