Our micromouse is able to drive around without hitting walls now, just in time for the competition.

A micromouse following a simple edge hugging algorithm on the right wall, it is able to not drive into walls

Isn't studying for math amazing, you learn all kinds of interesting things like. I just memorized jugemu's full name

Dear @kicad: I'm pretty sure I'm ignorant to why some decisions were made regarding the start screen, yet it makes no sense to me. Is there any explanation why things are not how I put in the attached image? Thanks! Regardless, still a wonderful tool (that I absolutely love). Cheers! #kicad #ux Edit: I mixed "screen state" with "screen space" in the image. 👅

@TT_392@fosstodon.org avatar

@dmian @kicad Apart from the preview thing, all of the other ones make sense from the assumption that there is only one project there. However, I do like your ux design better. Would be nice to have multiple projects there.

I get the feeling that there are some technical limitations of the underlying source code at play there, which would mean a lot of underlying work to make this UI possible (and sensible). Also probably the reason why we can have only one schematic sheet upen at a time.

TT_392,
@TT_392@fosstodon.org avatar

@dmian @kicad Honestly, I don't know much about kicad's source code (I'd love to dive in, but can't seem to motivate myself enough to learn C++). But I feel like I have heard the legacy code thing a lot when people talk about certain seemingly obvious kicad UI improvements. So from my very surface level understanding of the program, I feel like that part of the code could use some love. But I'd imagine that'd be a crazy big project I couldn't even begin to imagine the scope of.

@dmian @kicad I wish I had the time, energy and skill to throw at a project like that but I am just a simple electrical engineer with a small amount of programming knowledge.

Welp, spent a few hours on the beach, but no luck with the aurora

Was fun BBQing with friends on the beach at njght though, although, it was kinda difficult to BBQ in the dark. We saw some falling stars though

Some shots from seeing the aurora last night. Never expected to ever see them be this extreme here in NL. Way more color than when I saw them in Iceland.

Just need to solder on the buttons, the buzzer, and the other 4 proximity sensors and the electronics are done.

Managed to test the IR proximity sensing circuitry, the motor drivers, the shift register, the microcontroller and the LED's. Only mistakes found so far are some flipped transistor footprints. Also needed to make some adjustments to the IR input filter, but I was prepared for that.

The next 3 weeks are exams though, so the rest will have to wait.

The front side of the micromouse PCB, there only parts missing are the 4 other proximity sensors, the buttons, and the buzzer. The proximity sensors are on separate smaller PCB's on 90 degrees from the main PCB. (One of the proximity sensor PCB's is populated

I think I managed to solder on the lidar chip without melting the super heat sensitive packaging and without getting any flux into the holes. I do think it is on a slight angle though

Got the pcbs in, we got it with all the jlcpcb basic parts assembled. Now I just need to assemble and test the rest this weekend.

    Do we have a pinout convention for over 4 pin redfit connectors yet? Would be nice yo be able to keep those consistent with other peoples designs.

    Received and assembled my laptop earlier today (sadly I don't have better pics rn). Gotta say, coming from a 14 inch laptop, it does seem kinda big and heavy. It surprisingly fits in my backpack though, that was a suprise, I was expecting needing to buy a bigger one.

    Now I just need to wait for the SSD, which I ordered separately, to arrive (hopefully tomorrow).

    With the envelope removed, the box for the bezel, keyboard, and the expansion modules are visible.

    @gammallama You can export a PCB as step. You can then add this step file as a 3D model to a footprint and place that on your PCB.
