Thebazilly,

Definitely a bug, it looks like the quest is skipping over to the “rested too many times” resolution. You can get Nere and the gnomes out alive, normally.

Thebazilly,

I can’t get spoiler tags to work…

SpoilersIn the Blighted Village, the basement of the Apothecary Shop, where you also find the Necromancy of Thay book.

Thebazilly,

Unfortunately, I don’t think you can. You can’t remove custom characters from your party, and you can’t manage companions’ inventory unless they are in the party.

What is up with Baldur's Gate 3?

This is not a criticism - I love how much attention this game has been getting. I’m just not understanding why BG3 has been blowing up so much. It seems like BG3 is getting more attention than all of Larian’s previous games combined (and maybe all of Obsidian’s recent crpgs as well). Traditionally crpgs have not lit the...

Thebazilly,

I’m a Pathfinder fan with vague disdain for 5e as a ruleset and active loathing for Forgotten Realms as a setting. I love this game.

Good vs Evil: Companion Options

I’m currently slow going through BG3 with many different playthroughs (as you do when you can’t decide on a player character). I’ve noticed that evil characters are locked out of what seems like the majority of companions though. Does anyone know the complete list of the companions available to evil characters are?...

Thebazilly, (edited )

Shadowheart is a big softie, though. She approves when you pet the dog, nobody evil can approve of that.

Edited to remove spoiler.

Thebazilly,

Yes, Wyll and Karlach both leave the party if you attack the Grove. You also have to succeed a persuasion roll to keep Gale with you.

Thebazilly,

Oh no, I’m sorry! It looked okay on mobile but I’ve had trouble getting spoiler tags to work right lately.

Thebazilly,

Most of the way through Act 2. She definitely seems like she was hastily wallpapered over to cover up missing content. She doesn’t have an entry in the companion quests, has a dialogue tree to get her thoughts on other companions (instead of just chiming in like the others do), and cuts off the romance with a “perhaps we will lay together again.”

Someone on Reddit did say that they were told Minthara missing content is a bug when they submitted a support ticket, so I’m putting my evil run on pause until a few more patches.

Thebazilly,

My life has been replaced with Baldur’s Gate 3. I’m partially into Act 2 but keep having to take breaks because the spooky atmosphere and crippling decision anxiety are stressing me out too much to continue playing long stretches.

We just broke the highest number of concurrent Steam users at 875,343! (steamcharts.com)

For context, Larian Studio founder Swen Vincke predicted that the game could reach 100,000 peak concurrent users during its debut period, and that was a fairly optimistic prediction. I work in IT, and really feel for those folks. I hope they designed their infrastructure to scale!...

Thebazilly,

What an incredible achievement for Larian, and well deserved!

Thebazilly,

Why would they give us 25 quick save slots if they didn’t want us to use them.

Thebazilly,

Interesting! I think the companion classes affect the player class choice a lot. Paladin, Bard, and Sorc are all classes that no companion has, which also make good face characters. And nobody needs two Clerics, Shadowheart has you covered.

Thebazilly,

Can’t stop thinking about it every waking moment. I have put off many household chores just to eke a few more minutes of gameplay out. It’s a massive accomplishment of a game with a few bugs, but still an incredible and well deserved achievement for Larian.

I am a little worried because it felt like I had to poke into everything in Act 1 to get enough XP to get to Act 2. Hopefully the outcomes are different enough to make replaying interesting, because I know I want to do several playthroughs.

Thebazilly,

When you enter the cursed lands around Moonrise Tower.

Thebazilly,

Tears of the Kingdom is a lot better, from someone who also thought Breath of the Wild was overrated.

Dragon Age: Origins walked so Baldur’s Gate 3 could dash (www.techradar.com)

Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t the first successful attempt to marry cinematic aspirations with the traditional branching narratives and simulationist world-building of CRPGs. 2009’s Dragon Age: Origins had a very similar mission statement, offering a spiritual successor to BioWare’s earlier Baldur’s Gate titles long before...

Thebazilly,

Why is everyone acting like Dragon Age: Origins is the only fantasy RPG that ever existed? Baldur’s Gate 3 is the next step in a long legacy of genre defining games.

Thebazilly,

You can’t actually get the true ending on your first playthrough. You have to do the neutral ending first.

It is a wonderful little game!

Thebazilly,

Don’t tell my friends, but I actually like GMing more than playing now. It’s fun to have the galaxy-brain “always on” feeling and multitask information. (And it’s always your turn in combat!)

Thebazilly,
  • Gather raspberries.
  • Put raspberries in mouth.
  • Repeat.
Thebazilly,

As a more serious suggestion, you could make sorbet if you have a food processor or blender! It’s super simple and how I use up leftover fresh fruit after making freezer jam.

Puree fruit, add sugar as desired, freeze on a cookie sheet, re-puree, then freeze permanently.

Thebazilly,

Interesting! I saw on the wiki that if you take Ethel’s deal first, you can’t get Volo’s procedure. I assumed it would be the same in reverse!

Thebazilly,

I tried that fight a couple times before giving up on the quest because I already had another route to Moonrise. I expect recruiting allies is necessary because fighting that many duergar is mega difficult

SpoilersIf you let Nere kill the gnomes and Captain Thrinn, you can agree to fight on his side (to the disapproval of some companions), but the fight is still ridiculously hard.

Thebazilly,

If you fast travel too far away the quest also auto-fails with no warning.

Thebazilly,

Multiplayer: Tiefling Cleric of Ilmater, chronic good boy who feels he has to atone for a misspent youth. I felt inspired and ended up writing a page of backstory for him that I’m sure will never come into play, but maybe I’ll play him on tabletop someday!

Singleplayer: Wanted to do an evil campaign to contrast, ended up playing way more of this one than multiplayer, oops. Male drow Assassin/Gloom Stalker to romance Minthara.

There are other companion romances I want to try out and so many builds that sound fun! And I have to play a Dragonborn at some point, they look so beautiful! It’s really tempting to start another new campaign even though I’m not out of Act 1 yet!

Thebazilly,

Brennan Lee Mulligan made me cry about an imaginary plant, how dare he.
