Twodozeneggs,

Greetings, I do a little IT support for an elderly neighbor (mostly fighting with her printer for her) and she recently fell for one of those fake Microsoft scams, and gave a scammer access to her laptop and hundreds of dollars worth of Nordstrom gift cards…

She’s given me the laptop as she’s afraid to open it. I’m thinking of formatting the HDs and reinstalling windows, she only uses the laptop for Internet browsing and email, so she’s not worried about losing data.

Would this be enough to undo whatever the scammer would have done on the laptop?

Any considerations or advice would be appreciated. Apologies if this isn’t an appropriate question for this forum.

Twodozeneggs,

Thank you

Twodozeneggs,

Peterson fat shaming that sports illustrated model and acting all moralistic about it is pretty fucking regressive, or does that not count somehow?

What irritates me most isn’t the fat shaming, although that’s gross on its own, it’s when he’ll use it as a scapegoat for the downfall of our society. It’s not the greedy corporations paying bullshit wages, it’s bigger women being allowed to model, thats the root of all our problems…

Study reveals "widespread, bipartisan aversion" to neighbors owning AR-15 rifles (www.psypost.org)

A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that across all political and social groups in the United States, there is a strong preference against living near AR-15 rifle owners and neighbors who store guns outside of locked safes. This surprising consensus suggests that when it comes...

Twodozeneggs,

These are all differences without distinction, both of these rifles are capable of the same amount of harm.

Magazine capacity is the same, the Ruger just doesn’t have it’s magazine in the picture. Higher cap mags can be found for either rifle.

Pistol grip and color might make a difference in a video game, but no so much in reality.

Trigger pull difference is negligible, and could be lighter on either of the two rifles. There is no such thing as default trigger pull…

Twodozeneggs,

Press Tab, it shows an overlay for all your buildings where you can see how many people are assigned.

Twodozeneggs,

I’m cynical (or old) enough to agree with this sentiment to a point, but capitalism has greed built in, it’s a feature not a flaw.

Twodozeneggs,

Great guitar composition, and great video! Thanks for sharing I might go buy the tab from her website…

Twodozeneggs,

Cool video, love those old guitars!

I never knew there was an embargo (or whatever you’d call it) on American musical instruments in Britain after the war.

Interesting tidbit that the band may have intended to buy ES-175s instead of the J 160Es they ordered in '62.

The ES 175 seem like a much better fit for them than the acoustic electric J160s

Twodozeneggs,

Looks great, love the white pick guard 🤩

Twodozeneggs,

I checked out GuitarGeek at your suggestion and really like the channel!

Andy looks exactly like Quinns from ‘shut up and sit down’ (a board game YouTube channel and website) wearing a frizzy wig! it’s uncanny

Thanks for the recommendation!

Twodozeneggs,

Im really liking GuitarGeek def agree he has a way about him that’s instantly likeable.

Pedal show is fun too, I was drooling over the pedalboard from one of their last videos, ‘alder-and-ash-pedalboards’ freaking gorgeous!

Twodozeneggs,

Thanks for the recommendation, Dave is great! Could watch him do setups all day.

Twodozeneggs,

Twodozeneggs,

He’s the best, his technique explanation videos, his recipes…

He really wrote the book, on how to be a YouTube cook

;)

Twodozeneggs,

Why the judgy negative response without even reading their question? The guitar they mentioned is a squire affinity deluxe tele which is less than 300 bones, so squarely in the beginner price range. I dont know where you got 3k from…

Twodozeneggs,

In my opinion this sounds like normal discomfort when starting to learn.

I’ve found some good hand stretching exercises on YouTube, I’d suggest to stretch/massage your hands/wrist/fingers a couple times a day and really take your time and use good form when practicing. youtu.be/TSrfB7JIzxY?si=ZN6NSRwNqWqNRNC4

Justin, from Justin guitar, (definitely check him out if you haven’t already) recently did a series of videos where he taught himself to play left handed. One of his main take aways that stood out to him was the pain you go through when first learning. So don’t be discouraged it’s a normal part of learning, just make sure your using the best form you can manage.

Be kind to yourself and remember this is a lifetime journey, not a sprint to a finish line. Practice at least a little everyday and focus on building a solid foundation that you can expand on the rest of your life!

Cheers and good luck!

Twodozeneggs,

I’d suggest tuning your guitar before you practice. Your training your ear as well as your fingers. Getting tuned up is a skill that you need to practice just as much as anything else

Twodozeneggs,

Search in reverb for a comparable Epiphone Les Paul to get an idea of the value. My guess would be around 300 depending on the shape it’s in. (Looks pretty rough but hard to tell from one picture)

You might be able to look up the year it was made etc from the serial number on the back of the headstock.

Cheers and Good luck

Twodozeneggs,

Sounds awesome, what kind of locking tuners did you go with?

Twodozeneggs,

Cool guitar! I would clean it up the best you can, take the strings off and clean the fretboard with baby wipes to get the gunk off, and apply lemon oil if it seems dry.

Then take it to a guitar repair shop and get their input on the frets. It’s possible they can recrown the frets instead of replacing them completely which is much more expensive.

I’ve been quoted ~150 to recrown the frets to give you an idea.

As far as value, I’d suggest finding the serial number on the guitar and figuring out the exact model and year of manufacture. Then find similar guitars for sale on reverb.

Cheers and Good luck!

A cheap practice amp, gutted, then plugged into a 12 inch Jensen Speaker sounds excellent. I seriously feel a bit cheated paying $500 for a 'nicer' amp. (lemmy.world)

I got this idea from a YouTube video of a guy who wired this same amplifier into a Marshall Cab and was pretty impressed with the sound from that demo. I still had mine laying around so I did the same thing and plugged it into the 1x12 I'm making (Jensen Mod) and was even more impressed than I expected with the result. I went...

Twodozeneggs,

Odd I’m just seeing this post now, and it says it’s 6months old…

Cool project!

Twodozeneggs,

Beautiful guitars!

Do you have a favorite, or one you think you play the most? (Bet its the telecaster!)

Twodozeneggs,

Haha nice, what all did you do to perfect it?

Twodozeneggs,

Really cool instrument, and its awesome that you’ve made it exactly your own.

Out of curiosity, was the strat new or used when you bought it with all those fret and nut issues?
