Good day fediverse! You might have noticed my instance social.wyndix.dev has been down for weeks by now. I'd like to clarify, the person behind this account, "wyndix", is not dead. It, however, is. :ablobcatcoffee:

Wyndix was an attempt at hiding, it was a false identity, a construct. I had been a victim of repeated abuse, and I was afraid to show myself because I knew I was going to be harassed.

I created a new identity, one which was completely anonymous, and one who's not even gender would be disclosed. This is what you might know as "Wyndix".

I artificially improved my language with stupid virtual dictionaries and ChatGPT, I made a character, and I hid myself through it.

So this is fascinating. Mastodon stores Home feeds in RAM for performance, and it clears them out when a user is inactive (by default after 7 days). Adding them back when a user comes online is computationally expensive, so it can be problematic for a server if users check in regularly right after that timeout.

At least I found it fascinating; your mileage may vary. ;)

Currently though, I am banging my head on the desk because Calckey has very poor documentation for docker containers. So I started setting it up in the host system, and I think this was a bad decision...

@benjaminhollon Sadly very true. Containers are incredibly useful and are a great means for separation of concerns, but holy moly NOBODY knows how to make good instructions on them.

They always expect you to know EVERYTHING about how Docker works and the Docker syntax. Even worse, I prefer to use Podman which only makes things harder...

I spent ALL day setting up the docker compose, just to find out IT DIDN'T SUPPORT MY ARCHITECTURE, AAAAAAHG!

I'm sorry, bad documentation gets on my nerves...

If you use for your , beware. In my Debian install, ddclient.conf had read access for all users, giving access to DDNS credentals to virtually all users.

Just so you realize how dangerous this is, anybody with access to a user account can change your A records and point them to their own servers, without you noticing. And all of this from a very simple API.
