YungOnions,

So I went on Amazon and there it is, sitting at 186 5 star reviews. WTF. Genuine question: is there some way of reporting shit like this to Amazon? I can’t see anything obvious.

YungOnions,

Really good to hear! Not a small area, either!

YungOnions,

Actually, not only are the vast majority of people aware of man made climate change, they also consider it personally important and a government priorty: …yale.edu/…/international-public-opinion-climate-…

YungOnions,

It’s easy to lose track of the difference an individual can make to climate change, but you must view it from an appropriate perspective:

It’s hard to remain positive these days, so please take some time to remind yourself about all the things that are going well in the world:

YungOnions,

It’s important to take time to appreciate the things that are going well in the world.

As you correctly identified constantly doomscrolling is bad for your health.

wired.com/…/how-to-stop-doomscrolling-psychology-…

YungOnions,

That must be frustrating, but try not to let personal experience cloud the bigger picture. More people are willing to take action than you might think: pewresearch.org/…/pg_2021-09-14_climate_0-01-png/

And people are taking action, here’s some recent examples: curious.earth/blog/climate-success-stories/

Things look bleak, and it’s hard to remain optimistic, so it’s more important than ever to take the time to remind yourself of what is going right in the world:

YungOnions,

That sounds frustrating but, with respect, evidence suggests otherwise: cleanenergywire.org/…/global-surveys-show-peoples…

YungOnions,

And they do.

YungOnions,

That sounds like an opinion born of understandable frustration. However evidence suggests that people are more willing to make changes than you might think: pewresearch.org/…/pg_2021-09-14_climate_0-01-png/

YungOnions,

I absolutely agree that prioritising your own mental health is something everyone should do, but don’t you think that governments and corporations are even less likely to do anything if people like yourself just throw up their hands in frustration and give up?

There are ways of maintaining good mental health, but I’m not sure doing a full 180 is one of them.

YungOnions,

No problem! It’s not easy, as you say. Here’s some links to more positive places on Lemmy that you might find also help improve your mood:

Try ans stay happy Friend!

YungOnions,

Better late than never.

YungOnions,

It’s a start. Better than nothing and better late than never.

YungOnions,

Link to the report in question: cps.org.uk/…/CPS_TAKING_BACK_CONTROL_PDF.pdf

YungOnions,

No idea why reports are never linked in articles like this, tbh. It only took me a couple of minutes to find: cps.org.uk/…/CPS_TAKING_BACK_CONTROL_PDF.pdf

This nob always looks like someone slid the ‘Chin’ slider all the way to the left when they were creating his character.

YungOnions,

To be clear, this poll is only about American youth. I’ve not seen anything about the same reduction in urgency in youths from elsewhere in the world.

It’s also worth noting that the poll didn’t have a particularly large number of participants and that the age range was 18+ which obviously excludes a fair number of American youths younger than 18.

The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from April 18 to 22, 2024 with 808 adults in the United States.

I’m also just going to leave this here as a counterpoint:

YungOnions,
YungOnions,

I mean, I don’t disagree with your assessment of the ‘parasite class’ as you call them, but none of what you’ve written is cause enough to stop trying. The only thing that guarantees failure is not to try. As the articles I’ve linked to demonstrate it’s never too late. plana.earth/…/is-it-too-late-for-our-planet

Remember pessimism isn’t useful, it achieves the opposite of what we need: vox.com/…/climate-doomerism-optimism-progress-env…

Also, please be mindful that marinating in a sea of doomscrolling is really bad for you: www.openaccessgovernment.org/…/143139/

And that bad news is also literally addictive and it is important to break that habit: fastcompany.com/…/how-to-stop-your-brains-addicti…

YungOnions,

people migrate illegally from everywhere. you’re suggesting the UK should fix what exactly? every undeveloped nation everywhere?

I mean, not on its own, no, and only those nations from which it’s reciving the bulk of the immigrants. But long term that is the only viable option. As I understand it these are not people who are leaving their country because they particularly want to, they leave because things are so bad at home that literally risking their lives is better than staying. I imagine given the chance they’d prefer to stay at home, so at some point we need to help ensure that’s possible.

In the mean time a refugee camp of sorts would allow them to remain in their own country and provide suitable housing etc, meaning they wouldn’t have to leave in the first place.
