i saw a spez quote, one of the sickest things i've ever read, about how people are sharing things on reddit, especially in mental health / recovery spaces, "that they wouldn't even share with a therapist", and isn't it a fucking travesty that that hasn't been properly harvested and monetized

this guy should be put in a fucking padded room

edit: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/18/technology/reddit-ai-openai-google.html

"There’s a lot of stuff on the site that you’d only ever say in therapy, or AA, or never at all … But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free."

  • _number8_,

beehaw initially seemed like a nice good natured well rounded place but they got controlling and weird very quickly. never even let me in, i typed pretty good faith answers and haven't heard shit ofc

    _number8_,

just reminded me to cancel premium, thank you!!

    _number8_,

exactly! so fucked and insidious and greedy that they're trying to weed out competition as well

    _number8_,

nothing drives me more insane than artificial restrictions placed on digital technology that could otherwise be infinitely helpful

    _number8_,

brilliant. it's practically a utility at this point; i hate going places and seeing weird shitty scam 'freeATTwifi' everywhere. public internet now.

    _number8_,

every morning feels like starting at 0,0 and trying to get back up

    _number8_,

lollll love this shit. imagine them saying something this obviously tenuous about weed or cigarettes

pretty sure the stress 'turning down' is brain cells melting

    _number8_,

no, sometimes people suck and deserve to have their sentiment downvoted - at least on a site where voting has to exist

on proper forums where there is no voting, there are better ways to discourage behavior, like just ignoring the user / posts. but if the buttons are there you want to click them

    _number8_,

it's so nice being able to see actual downvote count again instead of total score as well. glad lemmy has no motivation to remove that at the moment [what was reddit's reason? spam prevention? not worth it]

    _number8_,

i wish the blackout was june 28-30 or something

    _number8_,

i love that they're making this extreme choice over fucking advice animals which haven't been relevant in literally 10+years

    _number8_,

yeah, it's almost a bit intimidating to post here now the fun has settled. you have to think of a whole thought about a somewhat serious topic and sometimes that's just...ugh

    _number8_,

i get this a lot randomly as well, on any platform. i assume it's just a bug, sometimes hours later it'll have worked on the server side, sometimes not. very annoying
