I will not ask my fellow lemmy community members to blindly trust me on this

But you are, so … 🤷‍♂️

Are you basing your claim solely on the email that kev@fosstodon.org shared, which mentioned no other mastodon server admins, or is there other evidence that you are aware of?

aleph, (edited )
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

All that email shows evidence of is that a representative of Meta approached the server admin of fosstodon.org and proposed a sit-down. That’s literally all it is.

There is no mention of 1) who else was invited, or 2) who else attended, 3) that an NDA would need to be signed, and (perhaps most importantly) 4) that the proposed discussion even happened in the first place.

Talk about jumping to conclusions.

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

There is no evidence that the proposed meeting even took place or which admins were invited, let alone that attendees would be required to sign an NDA.

Stop spreading FUD based on nothing.

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

Wow, that’s it?

this was about as informative as u/spez’s Reddit AMA about third party apps.

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

The evidence is fairly nondescript, though. At the very most, assuming that the rumors are true and an NDA was signed, the most likely explanation for that is that Meta didn’t want details of their new product leaking out before launch.

All this conjecture and insinuation that Mastodon.World admins have done something underhand/shady is just hysterical nonsense.

In addition, help out your instance admins by resizing the image if you don’t need it in high resolution.

Uploading a 250Kb file rather than a 2.5MB one makes a difference when thousands of users are doing it.

You’re using X11 rather than Wayland, right?
What command are you using for xrandr?

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

Well the method looks correct, but xrandr doesn’t support full wayland, AFAIK. It’s really meant for X11.

I haven’t looked into this myself, but perhaps there’s a newer tool that can get the job done?

Exactly. Although there is much debate over what Marx envisioned when he put forward the idea of a Communist society, it certainly didn’t involve an authoritarian, single-party dictatorship where The Party oppresses the people.

Tankies are more Stalinist and Maoist apologists than actual communists.

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

“The Khmer Rouge wasn’t communist” is another good one.

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

Actually, the irony is that a lot of tankies also say that the KM wasn’t Marxist, but that Stalinist Russia and Maoist China were.

Quite why, I couldn’t tell you.

I think the biggest draw for Nix is configuration.nix and being able to centralize your system configuration. I personally find the AUR to be better in terms of software, especially from GitHub.

I agree that people shouldn’t jump blind into Nix without first getting to grips with it though a VM or something, tho. The learning curve is quite steep.

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

Yeah, if you have the time and the inclination to sit down and learn how Nix operates, then you’ll be fine.

For myself, I realized that I am happier tinkering with it now and again rather than running it as a daily driver OS.

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

Same here. It’s a great tool but I’ve never found a real-world situation where I actually need it.

aleph,
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

Still way better than Google in terms of sponsored results and ads.

r/moderatepolitics was the worst for that.

Their moderation policy basically allowed any abhorrent view as long as it was expressed in a “civil” manner.

Trolls and racists could say things like “well, in my humble opinion, black people are just inherently violent and unintelligent” and anyone who got irate and called them out would get a warning and/or banned.

Won’t anyone think of the nazis?!

Great answer, thank you!

I was surprised to read that Sweden legalized gender reassignment treatments way back in 1972! In that country, at least, it has been realtively socially acceptable for some time already.

The politicization of the issue appears to have really muddied the waters, but at least it’s now being studied properly.

Orwell wasn't satirizing Nazism so much as Totalitarianism in general. He was equally, if not even more, critical of Stalinism and how Marx's ideals of a communist utopia has been crushed under the authoritarianism of The Party.

Nineteen Eighty-Four is a cautionary tale about the potential consequences of a society where individuality, freedom, and independent thought are suppressed in favor of a repressive and controlling regime of any kind, not just a right-wing fascist one.

"Antiwoke" magazin on kbin.social posting bullshit like "how to end Wokeness" and "Time to reject the extrem trans lobby harming our society" How to report ? he is the moderator of that magazin. (calckey.social)

@ernest how do I report a Magazin on kbin.social ? There is a usere called "ps" who is posting to his own "antiwoke" Magazin on kbin.social. Please remove this and dont give them a chance to etablish them self on kbin.social. When I report his stuff it will go to him because he is the moderator of the magazin? Seems like a...

That link doesn't get anywhere close to showing why it is "hot garbage".

Perhaps if you used your words to express a coherent argument, it would be more productive.
