Updated my streaming set top box shootout, so it's now Chromecast vs Fire TV vs Apple TV vs Shield TV vs Fetch Mini vs Hubbl.

That's a lot of TV watching. I think I need a break. Maybe I'll watch some... AAAARGH!

@alexkidman So. IF one was interested in getting into modern day Godzilla movies. Without going obsessive crazy about it… Is the 2014 movie the place to start?

alexkidman,
@alexkidman@aus.social avatar

@michaelq It depends. If by "modern" you mean post 90s, then either go 2014 US Godzilla for the monsterverse stuff, or watch 2016's Shin Gojira. Shin is the better movie IMHO by a wide margin, but it's not for everyone. The US 'Zilla movies are mostly popcorn fare, the Japanese ones are a little more thoughtful (but there's a lot with no direct continuity; Shin Gojira has nothing to do with Godzilla Minus one which has nothing to do with Singular Point or the Anime Movie trilogy... and I like all of those more than the US ones. But then I might just be obsessive crazy about it all...

alexkidman,
@alexkidman@aus.social avatar

@michaelq Not in any way at all. Same lead actor, totally different roles ;)

@michaelq Spoiler: It's all downhill for Star Wars after Caravan of Courage.

@michaelq Eww... that means you got Skull Island.

I'm sorry. It has the stupid ape in it. And it's boring.

MyGov scams proliferate because people don't know how to spot them. I got a scam (and spotted it), but I've used it to write a quick guide to help others avoid them. Might seem obvious to you... but these work because people fall for them, and I HATE that this happens.

I’ve signed up to run 100km (really!) in May to raise vital funds for MS research. I’ll do the running and sweating and suffering — and all YOU have to do is sponsor me. Sound like a great deal? Of course it is! (Please consider sponsoring me, the going will be tough…)

This week's Retro Game Of The Week features spaceships. And pigs. And penguins. And mermaids, babies, draculas and paper planes.

It's the truly wonderful, slightly weird Gokujō Parodius for the Super Famicom!

From all the posts about Threads today, am I to assume that Threads and Mastodon are now linked in some way?

alexkidman,
@alexkidman@aus.social avatar

@timrichards I honestly don't know -- I suspect it's not reciprocal, it seems to be driven from the Threads side. But as I'm in the wrong country to find out...
