algorithmae,

Am I missing something? This isn’t a comic? I’m so confused

algorithmae,

I really liked Tetris DS. The retro NES graphics and remixed music was a fantastic love letter to those old games, and the songs were pretty damn good to boot. It was also the version of Tetris I was best at, for some reason I was a lot better with the old, flat, firm DS Phat buttons more than any other console. I forgot what level I got to in Endless but it was probably over 500. Multiplayer was also a hoot, with powerups and you could play with 9 other people that didn’t even need the game to play. (Remember those days when you didn’t have to all have a copy of the game to play together? What a concept!)

Highly recommend if you want to emulate it!

algorithmae,

I didn’t see anything in the article about “effectively forcing everyone to identify themselves to online platforms,” care to elaborate?

Android users who have a keen eye for design and detail, how is the whole stutter/lag situation? Esp. after a few years of use?

I haven’t used an Android device since my last one, the Galaxy S8. Beautiful hardware, beautiful design, but it was plagued with animation stutters and dropped frames. I switched to an iPhone and an iPad around 6 years ago. And the animations were buttersmooth. It was almost unthinkable to achieve such a fluid interface on any...

algorithmae,

The first thing I do on any new phone is go to developer options and turn all 3 animation settings to off. It’s a night and day difference. I’ve probably saved a collective hour of my life not waiting for animations lol

algorithmae,

Really? I see it but it’s nothing more than a light ribbing. Like ironically saying “no cap frfr”

algorithmae,

Yup exactly

algorithmae, (edited )

You might have lost the lottery. I’ve printed 5 spools of parts with my work’s Ender 3 Pro without having to adjust the bed level after I first set it, and that doesn’t even have auto leveling.

Make sure your bed is clean, and make sure your gantry and frame is square when you assembled it. It might also be your type of filament or Z offset

algorithmae,

Why do we need a server to handle notifications anyway? Why isn’t it local to the device?

algorithmae,

Not much, I’m already kinda germophobic so it was easy to treat every surface as dirty. And now that people stopped cleaning everything, it’s easy to see that everything IS dirty. Still haven’t caught it lol

algorithmae,

Not nearly enough car accidents and floating trashburgs

algorithmae,

Me, at the business end of a weapon: “Man I’d love to rub that belly floof”

Ask Cars: Valve cover gasket replacement

Hello! I own a 08 Acura TL that has an oil leak from a bad valve cover gasket. I took it to my mechanic for some other things, but also wanted a quote for a replacement. The number they gave me was too high for my liking, and I did some research and decided to attempt the replacement myself. The shop would’ve done a spark plug...

algorithmae,

There’s a few things I would recommend to someone wrenching for the first time to save many headaches, all having to do with reassembly:

First, when reinstalling screws, turn them counter-clockwise until they “click” and fall down a little before turning clockwise to tighten. This ensures that the screw is lined up in the proper thread and won’t cross-thread.

Second, buy a cheap Harbor Freight torque wrench, for a valve cover you’ll probably just need a 1/4" flavor. Screws with a 8mm or 10mm head (M6 thread) often get torqued down to 80in/lbs and no more. This’ll avoid stripping the threads in the soft aluminum head, which will be a super expensive fix if you can’t do that yourself. In general I look up torque specs as much as I can to get a feel for how much I need to tighten a fastener.

Finally, finger tight all bolts first, and then go around again and tighten all bolts in a criss-cross pattern. Once you tighten one bolt, tighten the bolt farthest away, and repeat until all are tightened. This will prevent parts from warping and gaskets from deforming.

Good luck fam, wrenching is a fun and valuable skill. Be proud that you can do it!

algorithmae,

I used to fail Cloudflare’s capcha constantly until I realized I was clicking too fast lol

“I wonder what people’s opinions are, or of there’s something more to learn about this topic!”

“Oh, there’s nothing here…”

Ask Cars: Body Repair Before Resell?

Hey Lemmy. I have a 2010 Toyota Camry with 150k miles. The front bumper’s bottom segment (maybe 2 inches) has a crack and the grill is out of place. Also, there’s a couple small scratches in the paint elsewhere. Would it be worth it to have the bumper repaired as well as the paint touched up before selling it? I was given a...

algorithmae,

If you’re doing bondo, you’ll have to paint the bumper and blend it with the fenders which is way beyond your average DIY

algorithmae,

That’s cool and all and important for exposure, but what can I really do about it? It’s the ethereal algorithm and shitty companies gaming it for profit, with everyone else suffering because of it

algorithmae,

I know nothing about extended star wars lore but figured his appearance was from the dark side. Maybe it was covered or heavily alluded to in the movies? It’s been a while

algorithmae,

Metalworking? Pounding a piece of steel with a hammer for an hour or two sounds like a great way to blow off some steam

algorithmae,

Just like all other subjects in life, you’ll be a lot happier if you stay away from news and tabloids

algorithmae,

I think if you have a project saved, you can open it up and it’ll prompt you to override the current settings. From there you can save them and backup
