I pushed a bit too hard the day before yesterday and worked on my writing a bit too much and started to feel that very unique ppcs feeling where it feels like your brain has been marinated in Drano, so I meant to rest yesterday so I could get back to writing sooner without pushing it even farther... but instead I got nextcloud working. 🥲😅 So now I'm going to rest today, but I'm worried that I'm going to end up feeling like shit again for another couple weeks and by the time I get back to it I'll have lost all my motivation to work on my story :(

This is cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVIkGLv4Ms8

Like look, I'm an anarchist so I'm no fan of government in general, but public utilities, including internet, absolutely should be collectively owned, controlled, and maintained by the communities that use them, not corporations somewhere else, so this is cool anyway.

There are two types of leftists. Those that are operating on strong conceptions of justice and compassion, and those who are motivated based on guilt and optics. (The latter type isn't unique to leftists though). I try to be the former.

anarchopunk_girl, (edited )

You can usually suss out the latter in how they treat marginalized people. Guilt totems you're constantly trying to suck up to to make yourself feel better about your privilege or guilt, or "just" other full equal human beings who you want to help dismantle the structures that oppress them, because you care about justice and have compassion for them? People acting out of guilt don't think about the mechanics of justice and the particular context of situations, they just unthinkingly side with whoever they feel most guilty towards because it's still all about them, all about assuaging their feelings of guilt, not actual justice or compassion.

anarchopunk_girl,

It's the difference between people that misgender you and get all sorry and start begging your forgiveness and wailing about how terrible of a person they are, because their support for you is all about their guilt and their feelings, and people who just correct themselves and move on and get better over time, because it's about justice and compassion.

anarchopunk_girl,

@sidereal well shit I need to get bolt cutters then

anarchopunk_girl,

someone told me today that young people can't afford homes because we spend all our money on "toys like boats and ATVs" and now I am desperate to meet the one Millennial Hell-Child commuting from their basement apartment in a speedboat and giving us all a bad name

anarchopunk_girl,

@VeryBadLlama omg basement apartment just like me frfr

anarchopunk_girl,

@scorpiontongue your posts haven't been showing up in my timeline I think and that's sad bc this is so funny lol

Hey does anyone know how to make it so that a server can curl or ping its own domain or public IP (without just editing that domain into the hosts file, since I need docker containers to be able to talk to the server as well so just editing the domain into the hosts file as localhost won't work on the containers bc for them localhost means themselves)? Been really stumped on this one

anarchopunk_girl,

@capn_b oh I have both the public IP and the domain it just doesn't work, times out

anarchopunk_girl,

@rose oh god.... why can't the machine just talk to itself? AAAAAAA this is why I'm a software developer not a sysadmin this shit just hates you and wants you to die lmao

I'll try doing sketchy shit with the docker IPs and see what happens I guess

anarchopunk_girl,

@rose what's going on is that I wanted two docker containers exposed on different ports on the server to talk to each other via just the server's web address and the relevant port, because the address is modifiable in one of the docker's web UIs. I can access the docker that's supposed to be contacted myself, but the actual docker that needs to talk to it can't.

anarchopunk_girl,

@capn_b @rose side by side, I believe

anarchopunk_girl,

@rose okay yeah using the other docker container's fake IP address works inside an exec bash at least, let us see if the web interface likes it (I bet it won't)

anarchopunk_girl,

@rose OH HOLY SHIT IT DID

anarchopunk_girl,

@rose well it's still borked but in a totally different way now! Progress! I hate nextcloud!

anarchopunk_girl,

@rose thank you! but idk if that'd help much. I'm trying to use the nextcloud all in one docker, which is an official docker container that sets up and runs like seven other docker containers to get the whole thing including collabora set up. it's just poorly documented and confusing

anarchopunk_girl,

@rose that seems like it'd be better but I'm in sunk cost territory now and I want to use the official recommended image

anarchopunk_girl,

@archlentil @rose this I what I'm using: https://github.com/nextcloud/all-in-one . It seemed like it was the most logical choice because it's all of the relevant doctor containers assembled into a single system that you can manage through a web dashboard and stuff and it's got everything implemented even the stuff people commonly forgot to set up like redis

anarchopunk_girl,

@archlentil it is in fact very cool!! it gives you a web-based dashboard to manage all of the docker containers necessary to actually run a full nextcloud instance, where you can enable and disable services with a checklist, and click to see the logs of each server in your browser, and use a graphical user interface to stop and restart and see the status of each container, and it'll even notify you when there are updates for your Docker containers as well! The only hitch is that if you try to set Collabora up according to what their docs say, it won't work. Instead follow this guide:

https://help.nextcloud.com/t/nextcloud-all-in-one-docker-behind-router-and-reverse-proxy-cannot-talk-to-https-nextcloud-mydomain-com-hosting-capabilities-or-collabora-office/172269/10?u=alexispurslane

Would a character recovering from 2-3 cracked ribs, a fractured jaw, and a lot of pretty severe blunt force trauma to the head — including a mild concussion — in about 4-5 weeks, with the aid of advanced but not exactly science fantasy medical technology, be too far fetched for you subjectively? I am not what you'd call a medicine knower.

Here's an example of what medical technology they have btw (this is just a world building thing that I've had in my stories for awhile it is not researched at all): they have nanotechnology that can build an artificial bone scaffold between broken bones to hold them in place and provide a path for bone growth, that's coated in some sort of catalyst to encourage that growth. FYI the nanobots are more of the "pick stuff up from here and put it there" or "bunch of us get together and make some molecules" stuff not like, iron man suit or gray goo level.

(Asking bc this plot point gave my girlfriend a big ehhhhhhhhh lol)

anarchopunk_girl,

@jadedtwin thats how i am too! I can watch shit about big ass fighting robots or whatever and as long as it's internally consistent and the rules have benefits and drawbacks and stuff I'm totally fine

nando161, to random
anarchopunk_girl,

@nando161 this is a really good point. It isn't about being guilty for something your ancestors did, its about looking around you and like — hey, there's this deeply unjust system, don't you want to dismantle that? Wouldn't you even if your ancestors weren't responsible, because justice matters to you?
