@badrihippo For your final test, could you please explain it to me?

aru,
@aru@functional.cafe avatar

@badrihippo So it is "just" a replay of everything you did between the start and the end of the macro recording?

I don't know what it is about (or probably any distribution), but it just feels right. I know this is really vague, but that's the best description I could come up with. I just boot it up and immediately get the feeling of "yes, this is it, this is how it should be".

Hikers of fediverse, what are your go-to s for ? I'm looking for recommendations for a ~60l pack.

This for me kinda falls into the "there's a math trick to it" category which I generally don't appreciate all that much. I'm trying to learn a language and at times that is difficult enough on its own.

Day 7 of in

https://tildegit.org/aru/aoc/src/branch/master/2023/07/Day07.hs

This would have been fine, if only I have bothered with actually reading the problem description instead of just thinking "Oh, cards! I know this" and then inventing something completely wrong.

Finally an easy one, I was almost starting to have doubts about myself.

Day 5 of in

https://tildegit.org/aru/aoc/src/branch/master/2023/05/Day05.hs

I know this is terrible, I know what a better solution would look like (set operations on ranges to reduce to problem space, right?), but I just can't express it in a language I don't really know. It feels like I'm fighting at two fronts - with the problem and with the language. Not sure if I'll stick with haskell for the upcoming problems.

Day 4 of in

https://tildegit.org/aru/aoc/src/branch/master/2023/04/app/Main.hs

I'm pretty sure there's a mathematical trick for just calculating part 2, but just walking over all of the scratchcards works as well.

Day 3 of in

https://tildegit.org/aru/aoc/src/branch/master/2023/03/day3.hs

This took me longer than I'm willing to admit. Once I had the input processed it was easy, but wrestling it into something usable wasn't exactly pleasant

Day 2 of in

https://tildegit.org/aru/aoc/src/branch/master/2023/02/day2.hs

In retrospect, using some sort of a parser library would have been better, but eh, just splitting strings left and right did the trick in the end.

Not only was it not a terrorist attack, the model of Bentley that ran into a barrier and exploded at the Rainbow Bridge crossing, killing the occupants, was subject to a recall in 2021 due to a "stuck accelerator" problem. Incoming negligence lawsuit (against Bentley) ahoy ...

@cstross @jaycee Fundamentally I think I could agree with you, but could we shift it around? Could we first get reliable public transport and then ban alternatives?

I'm aware I might become internet's public enemy number one by saying the above, but please have mercy

JustineSmithies, to voidlinux

Tempted to explore on after spinning up a test laptop. The setup for an encrypted system seems straightforward and boot up should be a tad quicker when unlocking compared to grub being slow. Also snapshots is a thing and being able to recover from accidentally deleting files. Any other Void users have experience with ZFS ??

https://docs.zfsbootmenu.org/en/latest/guides/void-linux/uefi.html#zfs-pool-creation

aru,
@aru@functional.cafe avatar

@JustineSmithies There was a time some years back when I used linux with root on zfs, not with void though. IIRC it was fedora and arch.

It was nice when it worked, but every now and then I would get bitten by zfs kernel modules not being rebuilt on kernel update. In retrospect, the cons outweighed the benefits for me :/

I hope you'll have a better time than I did.

Cool KDE Plasma Tip: Quickly access task manager apps with [Meta] + [number]

@kde's task manager usually lives in the panel located by default at the bottom of your desktop (see attached image).

Quickly open or display apps shown in the task manager by holding down the [Meta] (aka "Windows") key and hitting one of the number keys at the top of your keyboard.

Reach the first app on the left with [Meta] + [1], the second from the left with [Meta] + [2], etc.

aru,
@aru@functional.cafe avatar

@Bro666 @kde @kde tbh this is one of the first keybinds I overwrite with something else. I use meta+number to switch between workspaces to switch between sets of windows instead of just separate windows. I kinda wish window groups would be a thing instead of having to emulate it with virtual desktops
