The players got to meet the drunk "Paladin" today and it was kind of played for a laugh that he's bragging about how he can suss out any undead within 500 ft of him while an actual undead is standing 25 ft away from him and he has no clue and I think they're all assuming that's just cuz he's an idiot and drunk but it's actually supposed to be a huge hint that he's not actually a paladin.

I just had Irik (aka Azalin, sorta) refer to Strahd von Zarovich as a "brooding egomaniac" after previously making fun of the depiction of him on a coin for having a glower and calling him "miserable bastard."

It's well known by my players that I love clowning on Strahd but I'm trying to hint that his dislike is a little more personal. And indeed the fact that Strahd and Azalin hate each other is one of the better established parts of both of their characters.

Someone was complaining about Strahd being "retconned" as not being straight and I was like "Are you sure about that? Because the book this is from this came out in 1991."

Irik is just straight up Midnight from Arknights now. He's in the new PC's introduction and even has the pink hair streaks.

Hilariously I put up an image of Midnight to demonstrate what he looks like to the players and now they are lusting after him.

Which is incredibly funny considering who he actually is/was. I don't know if they would feel the same way if they knew that was actually Azalin. 😆

Thinking about how one of my favorite moments in Star Wars is one that doesn't actually have any dialogue.

In The Phantom Menace when Qui-Gon and Darth Maul are fighting each other and then get cut off by the laser wall between them there's a great bit as the two are waiting for it to open back up. Qui-Gon just sits down to compose himself while Maul is pacing like a caged tiger and takes a swipe at the laser wall with his lightsaber, which doesn't do anything.

It's a great tiny moment.

One of the players in my #Darkon game I am getting up to speed with some text-based RP before they formally join us next week and I was very excited to be able to bring back #TheRavenQueen since they are playing a Shadar-Kai.

Now in the continuity of games I DM, #Strahd is officially dead for good. And something that The Raven Queen did when he finally died permanently was scoop his ass up and so now he has to serve her for eternity or however long it takes him to atone. Whichever comes first.

Oh my God. So I thought I had a digital EMS rounds meeting today at 9am and spent the last 30 minutes trying to figure out what the issue was on my computer and then only after I pinged our supervisor did I realize the date is actually May 30th not the 1st.

He hasn't responded yet so hopefully he just writes me off as an idiot and ignores it.

At least I didn't bring it up in the (same time every day) daily meeting. In which case the entire department would have seen what an idiot I am.

One concept I'm playing with in the Darkon game I'm running is that reality is a little... squishy in #Ravenloft. So the current plot the players are involved in has the Church of the Overseer (or more accurately their head Derakoth) attempting to manifest their fake God into reality and in the body of Tavelia, the Kargat vampire who enthralled him.

And then later on I'm going to play with the concept when it comes to the Alanik Ray subplot, in particular the fictional-in-universe Adam Worth.

The funny thing about Marco and Van Richten is they kind of budded off from a single character idea so now I've had to differentiate them.

Like Marco has gotten more of the flat affect while Van Richten is more openly compassionate.

I decided to put together a timeline to try to keep things at least somewhat consistent in my #Darkon game.

In the official materials they actually use BC for Barovian Calendar, but I decided that's might be a little confusing for players since we use that in real life so I changed it to BA.

And yes The Fellowship of the Raven is the adventuring party that my Ireena originates from.

I've told my players that if a time discrepancy is noted they can assume it's some weirdness of the mists, otherwise it's just me failing to do the math correctly.

Figured out how I can introduce the player characters to the idea of Van Richten as a force for good this is my original plan of tying him into a PC's backstory went sideways since that player had to drop out.

Fredrich and Hilda Kreutzer send them a copy of his guide to vampires after finding out that they had an unfortunate* run in with a vampire spawn.

*for the vampire spawn since he got a bottle of wine broken over his head and then lit on fire by one of the PCs

I had a patient on Sunday who was a little girl going up into Children's Hospital for a fairly minor thing (TL;DR she probably had an infection in her jaw but because she had a fever they wanted a specialist to look at it) but she had an IV in and her father was insisting that she wasn't allowed to bend her arm.

I tried to jump in to say that as long as nothing is running through said IV, that's fine, but he kept cutting me off, and I just dropped it.

The conversation somewhere else made me think of an overly simplified gaming metaphor for when people ask "Is [vital sign] good or bad?"

It's like if you tell somebody "I rolled a 2" but you don't state what type of dice you're using. If that's a roll on a d4, that's not a bad result, but if it's a roll on a d20, that is a bad result.

At my previous job I had to tell people on a regular basis that by the same token, your blood pressure on its own doesn't really mean anything.
