After being demilitarized in 2005, Sweden re-introduced permanent troops to Gotland in 2016, following Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula in 2014. Sweden also became NATO’s newest member in March — meaning it is covered by the alliance’s Article 5 guarantee that all other members come to each other’s...
Depends on how Sweden reacts to Russian troops on the island. If they react weakly, Russia would take advantage of it. Probably Russia isn't that dumb to fuck around and find out though...
Because content distributors haven't thought of another way to get money. The only other thing they came up with is subscriptions. Some have thought of donations, but they haven't banded together to come up with an alternative. It's weak and totally mid.
Egyptian intelligence quietly changed the terms of a ceasefire proposal that Israel had already signed off on earlier this month, ultimately scuttling a deal that could have released Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and set a pathway to temporarily end the fighting in Gaza, according to three people familiar with the...
All Russia had to do was join NATO and stop claiming the former Soviet Union has to be restored. NATO exists because Russia was considered a threat. Were it not a threat, its entire existence would be futile.
This is so dumb... the only reason I even watch football is the malicious glee I get when a dumb celebration is cancelled after VAR clearly shows it was an invalid goal.
The Premier League’s figures show the number of correct decisions in matches has increased from 82% before VAR was introduced to 96% currently. With semi-automated offside technology due to be introduced early next season, it is felt that figure will increase even further.
So these people want to have 1/5 of the decisions be wrong again in order to win. How amazingly convenient.
China threw Russia an economic lifebelt after the West hit Moscow with sanctions over the war in Ukraine. As Putin prepares to visit Beijing this week to promote even closer ties, Washington is ramping up the pressure....
The West let it happen. They didn't arm Ukraine quickly enough, nor did they do much of anything to help Ukraine in the decade before. Instead they became closer pals with Russia after the annexation and even more dependent. Had they nipped this in the bud more than a decade ago, Russia wouldn't have had the means nor the will to invade Ukraine.
Europe and the USA need to ramp up production of military assets as if it's wartime and help Ukraine defend itself, instead of twiddling their thumbs and asking themselves if Putin is really serious while Ukraine soldiers lose their lives.
Who is "they" and "nipping" it sounds like you're suggesting would be to flood the (at the time) half corrupt country half Russian owned country with Western weapons to untrained people
The Western powers, but mostly Western Europe. The Baltic states and Poland were very wary of Russia and there multiple news articles of them fearing a Russian invasion (Lithuania 2017).
Gearing up NATO for a possible invasion to actually increase military spending for secure Baltic borders, stockpiling arms and weapons, as well as gradually much harsher sanctions for Russia together with increasing economic distancing - aka a strong response, could've shown Russia who not to trifle with. The former USSR states said multiple times that Russia wouldn't recognize much apart force.
The Nord Stream pipeline was beyond idiotic. After signing the Paris agreement in 2015, agreeing to get more gas into the EU and from Russia of all parties, was just dumb. The dependency created was more on European side than Russian side.
Russia started testing its own internet and tried producing its own chips for Russian "independence", but after the annexation how could that not be interpreted as preparation for disconnection from Western tech?
Probably the situation was complex back then and even more complex today, but the reality is that to many people the attack on Ukraine was not a surprise but a matter of time.
The crew, made up of 20 Indians and a Sri Lankan national, has been unable to disembark because of visa restrictions, a lack of required shore passes and parallel ongoing investigations by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FBI.
On Monday, the crew remained on board even as authorities used small explosive charges to deliberately "cut" an expanse of the bridge lying on the ship's bow.
Would they treat Europeans like this? This is only happening because they're brown.
Again with the stupid response. Just because you grew up in a country divided political system doesn't mean that everybody has to be divided and tribal. Learn to think for yourself, instead of just mindlessly parroting the opinions of youtubers and redditors who just exited a cave, unable to distinguish between anything more than light and dark.
"ug ug, yuuutoober say this bad!" then start a fight with another cave-educate individual "nug nug, no mai oootuber sey this gud!".
