Some kids sitting near me on the train this morning, on their way to the Australian Open for the day:

Another interjects: “cookies!”

@simonbs It's easy to say "ignore the haters", but you can't, it's human nature to worry about these things. Focus on the positive reviews though if you can. I'm going to leave a review now (should have previously) even though I hardly ever use the app 😀 But when I do, it's really good - does what I need! 👏

I have SO MANY different shows and movies unfinished on SO MANY different streaming services and downloads and apps that I can’t keep track any more. It's very confusing.

I started watching a movie last night that I'd like to finish tonight - can't remember on which app though.

Honestly think I'll just go back to 🏴‍☠️ everything.

"Saltburn" was the movie in case you were wondering 😀 Seems pretty decent so far. Bit too close to the bone as a poor person who went to an ancient university with a lot of very posh people though! 😀

I don't want to pay for a subscription to watch videos to see how an open source project works. It's a fkn bait n switch, not to mention a massive waste of time.

If you want to make software for the community to use, do that. If you want to be a YouTube star, do that. Don't make one contingent on the other.

Ten years ago today I gave a talk in Cardiff lamenting the state of software development. Basically talking about enshitification before that word was invented 😀 I fear things have not improved since then!

My first act as PM/Monarch/Supreme leader will be to mandate that all movie/book series' are numbered sequentially.

No more Thing, Planet of Thing, Return of the Thing, Things, Origin of Thing that you have to look up on Wikipedia every time you want to watch it.

The longer I work, the more I become convinced that the main five superpowers you can have as an engineer are:

a) Empathy for customers – their experience is all that matters

b) Understanding UX expectations. Eg the iOS HIG, including a11y

c) Forming a mind map of the software you work on, so you can navigate and predict the outcome of changes

d) Where debt is, so you can make improvements and spot risk

e) How to use the above to "get to yes" so you're not blocking, you're enabling
