I’m now convinced that the Jedi would fit right in on an academic committee.

I hate - HATE - Concur with the power of a thousand suns. The simple recording of 3 receipts (hotel, airline ticket, conference fee) becomes a two-hour time trap in a labyrinth Stanley Kubrick would admire.

Crikey. The University of the Arts in Philadelphia is shutting down in 7 days. It just gets worse and worse.

Apparently there is such a thing as the bibliography committee.
I don’t know how I dodged that bullet, but I’m grateful. #academia

“Everything is either right or wrong, red state or blue state, young or old, gay or straight, rich or poor, Palestinian or Israeli, my way or the highway. Everywhere we are trapped by these old, tired, binary reactions, assumptions, and certainties. For filmmakers and faculty, students and citizens, that preoccupation is imprisoning. Still, we know and we hear and we express only arguments, and by so doing, we forget the inconvenient complexities of history and of human nature.”

Just got a royalty check for <drum roll> $16.77. This playwriting is really starting to pay off.

“War is hell, but that's not the half of it, because war is also mystery and terror and adventure and courage and discovery and holiness and pity and despair and longing and love. War is nasty; war is fun. War is thrilling; war is drudgery. War makes you a man; war makes you dead.”

Last night, I saw a most remarkable movie: Nothing but a Man. It’s a 1964 microbudget indie that offers a whitewash-free look at the complexities of black life in the Deep South. It features, among others, Yaphet Kotto, Gloria Foster (Oracle from The Matrix), and jazz singer Abbey Lincoln. Its soundtrack was the first LP ever released by Motown. It is a wonder.

I know this sounds ridiculous- stupid even - but I just realized 2004 was 20 years ago.
