Looks like a shockfront of solar wind has reached Earth by now.
Data by polarlicht-vorhersage.de and SWPC.

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer but there came three more shockfronts after sunset 🤗
I was outside for 6 hours, walking through dark forests between the shows.
It was nice 😊

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer so you did very cool things, too. I still haven't learned to recognize aurora CW, as I haven't listened enough yet.

@arnie_dxer thank you!
So kind of you! 🤗
I read the last guy in cw as S50C?
A Slovenian person?

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer nice! I can hear him now after a few struggles.
Thank you! Never heard such a thing before.

All 14 (FOURTEEN!) of transmitters slated for final shutdown yesterday were -- well -- shut down yesterday.

@/Mad Radio DXer UK / M7EIW had recorded two Smooth Radio relays closing mid-songs. His local 1557 kHz in Southampton went off air after a minute or two of dead air @ 0954z ▶ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlnfr-YbJf0&pp=ygUObWFkIHJhZGlvIGR4ZXI%3D
while 1170 Portsmouth was killed more smoothly (sic!) @ 0903z ▶ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zryjsc1iu7w

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer I won't miss Smooth Radio at all and for me BBC Asian Network has been more fun than Radio 4 at most of the times.
I think I've heard the R.Cumbria transmitter on 756 khz at night recently, which made me happy 🤗

"This BBC Radio 4 transmission has now closed. Please retune to FM, Digital Radio, Digital TV, BBC Sounds or smart speakers to continue listening to BBC Radio 4. For more information visit bbc.co.uk/reception."

That's it. That's @BBCRadio4 on , from 1127z (except for Plymouth 774 kHz which switched to this loop @ 1354z. Thx to @/Connor_Animations on YouTube for update 👍

@arnie_dxer For protocol and piety I'm listening on my balcony to the loop on 1449 khz.
Asian Network is wailing on undeterred.
I'm waiting for the cold front and violent gusts try to rip apart my recycling wastbag!

11875-11890 kHz: quite a big & cannibalish cluster here at this hour, with:
11875 CRI russian
11880 CRI Hakka
11885 Voice of Vietnam English to Europe
11890 VOA Tibetan, fortunately unjammed so far, but already stronger than Vietnam 😮

@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer for once I can hear all your findings at home! 🤗 Time to try out my pass band tuning.

PIZZA PASTA PREGO PREGO ROAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR 😂😂😂

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer I haven't been aware of them this far, although they have been around for a while.
I've just checked 5955 khz on a nearby KIWI SDR and heard "Come on , Eileen" 🙄 😊
My own indoor antenna couldn't hear them in the noise.
Thank you for pointing out this piece of administrative poetry! 🤗
I'll see if I can find the "metal" part at some point ...

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer Oh! Cool! 👆
My conclusions have been premature! 🙄 🙂
Meanwhile I've read the dutch document, but I understand it as if somebody asked for the license of the broccoli broadcast to be withdrawn and possible reasons are withheld for data protection.
And now to me it looks like HFCC gave an obsolete program name as the name of the broadcaster.

When considering the future of Radio 4 service, many people seem to forget there are a couple fillers active. Would we allow them to let go too?

The answer is... yes -- and even earlier than 198 kHz, as there's no Teleswitch, no time signals, no bells & whistles accompanying these mostly low-power relays.

And as it turns out, we only have some 3 weeks left to listen to them!

https://radiotoday.co.uk/2024/03/date-set-for-the-closure-of-bbc-radio-4-medium-wave-frequencies/

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer thank you for this information and the excellent videos. I have checked in on some of these frequencies regularly, in particular on 1449 khz, which really is a quite reliable station.

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer Seeing your message I've duly left my warm bed and took up listening on my balcony.
First thing I stared straight into a bolt of lightning. Two lines of showers and storms have formed out of nothing a few km north and south of my place.
Individual cells are moving eastward at indecent speeds.
I can follow BBC R.4 on 756 and 1449 khz, with occasional fade outs and co-channel QRM. 1449 is getting wiped out by Asian Service at times.
720 khz is a matter of belief only.
Else no BBC.

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer good morning, Arnie, and thank you for your insightful remarks 🤗
I remember times with decent reception of Radio 4 on 720 in my place as well.

Emmm what happened to FMSCAN?!

It now requires me to log into FMLIST or MWLIST...

Not that it's a problem to me 😝 but if you just want to check what you might be hearing on a particular frequency or generate those fancy maps of a transimtter or an entire radio network's coverage, just for fun -- then it might be a hurdle.

bisamsee,
@bisamsee@mastodon.radio avatar

@arnie_dxer thank you!

    Outstandingly, band remains chock-full of Asian DX on Joensuu🇫🇮 , despite such a massive solar flare almost an hour ago 😯 ... although only from about 900 kHz up.

    Note both 1566 and 945 kHz suffering from : on the former, this has been IDed as Yanbian PBS FEBC with not just rumbling but also rumbly audio, as if both the carrier and the 33*n (Hz) sidebands were modulated!

    But in case of 945 kHz... well, that's unexplainable.

    Today is 's Eve, and an annual big gala by state-owned China Media Group has begun. listeners may hear it on CNR1, CNR5, CNR7, perhaps some regionals, while CGTN TV should have it on its English et al. channels online.

    When musing with it, remember that this year's Chinese New Year's Eve is kinda different from (almost) all others.

    This year, this day is NOT a public holiday in .

    Because... its name sounds like "get rid of Xi".

    @arnie_dxer here in SW-Germany CNR1 on 11710 khz was strong around 1300z on the nearby Filderstadt KIWI SDR, then got wiped out completely for 20 minutes and has returned to good signal by 1330z.
    CNR7 on 13770 khz went from weak to vanished and is still barely audible.
    Thank you for your research! 🤗

    @arnie_dxer On 1494 khz my own rig in south Germany reads a weak signal fading in every couple minutes, that consistently sounds like a dutch pirate with unsurvivable cheesy music.
    The Nordheide Kiwi in North Germany held a fair to poor signal in Chinese, which is weird as I found only LP stations listed. Under the Chinese was some faster paced music, like techno.
    Meanwhile (2342z) there I seem to hear the cheesy mx also.
    No IDs heard so far ...

    nice signal on the Nordheide Kiwi in north Germany. I could write down several words, but not consistently the message. So there is work to do.
